Monaco’s Embassy in Brussels Celebrates the 21st Anniversary of Prince Albert II’s Reign

The Embassy of Monaco in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands hosted its traditional annual reception in Brussels to celebrate the anniversary of the accession to the throne of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The event, held on 8 July 2026 at the Monaco Embassy headquarters, brought together numerous guests, including ambassadors, representatives of European and international institutions, members of the political, economic and cultural communities, as well as many friends of the Principality.

The reception provided an important opportunity to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Prince Albert II’s accession to the throne and to highlight Monaco’s role on the international stage.

Relations between Monaco, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands at the heart of the Ambassador’s speech

During his address, Monaco’s Ambassador Frédéric Labarrère highlighted the excellent diplomatic and institutional relations between the Principality and its three countries of accreditation: Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

These long-standing ties are strengthened by the presence of significant communities from these countries residing in Monaco.

The Ambassador also recalled the historical depth of these relations, referring to the celebrations held this year in Antwerp, where Monaco’s Honorary Consulate General is marking its 150th anniversary.

Monaco and European institutions: a dialogue based on trust

The reception also provided an opportunity to discuss relations between the Principality and the institutions of the European Union.

Ambassador Labarrère emphasized the quality of the dialogue established over the years with the various European institutions, based on mutual trust and the sharing of common values.

This cooperation reflects Monaco’s commitment to maintaining an active role within the international community through dialogue and collaboration with major European organizations.

Monaco’s international priorities

The Ambassador also highlighted the main areas guiding the international action of the Government of Monaco.

In particular, he recalled the key priorities of Monaco’s foreign policy:

• international cooperation;
• the promotion and protection of human rights;
• environmental preservation;
• respect for multilateralism.

These priorities take on particular significance as Monaco holds, for the first time in its history, the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, assuming an important role within the European diplomatic landscape.

Monaco’s culture and culinary excellence showcased during the evening

Following the institutional speeches, guests had the opportunity to discover Monaco’s heritage through a selection of local products and culinary specialties specially presented for the occasion.

The reception combined diplomacy, culture and the promotion of Monaco’s identity, reaffirming the importance of the Principality’s diplomatic representations in strengthening international ties and showcasing Monaco’s values and traditions around the world.
