On 16 January, the Embassy of Monaco in Italy, based in Rome, hosted for the third consecutive year the General Assembly of the Mayors of the municipalities belonging to the “Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco” in Italy, reaffirming its role as a key venue for dialogue and cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and the Italian territories historically linked to the Grimaldi dynasty.
The Italian association, which now brings together 46 municipalities across the entire peninsula, is chaired by the Mayor of Dolceacqua, Fulvio Gazzola, and stands out for the dynamism of its initiatives aimed at enhancing and promoting the shared historical heritage of these former fiefs. Through cultural, sporting and environmental projects, the association fosters initiatives that generate visibility, development and cooperation, inspired by the strong values embodied today by H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Principality of Monaco.
Addressing the mayors in attendance, including those from nearby well-known cities such as Genoa and Ventimiglia, as well as representatives from more distant regions in southern Italy, H.E. Anne Eastwood, Ambassador of Monaco to Italy, reaffirmed the closeness and deep attachment of the Principality to what she described as a true “Monegasque family”, which the association is tasked with nurturing and expanding throughout Italy.
This commitment will take concrete shape in 2026, with new official visits by the Sovereign Prince to municipalities that have recently joined the network, as well as the organisation in Rome of a dedicated event designed to showcase these sites of interest and highlight the richness of their cultural and culinary heritage.
The meeting once again confirmed the strength of the historical and institutional ties between Monaco and Italy, projecting them into the future through shared memory, cooperation and the promotion of a common heritage.
