The Principality of Monaco is preparing to take a further step in enhancing public safety by announcing its intention to ban the use of pyrotechnic devices in enclosed public venues. This measure builds on an already highly stringent regulatory framework that has long been applied to music, nightlife and entertainment establishments.

For many years, Monaco has implemented a prevention system based on strict regulations, regular inspections and a strong on-site presence of technical services, ensuring optimal safety conditions for the public. In the wake of the serious fire that occurred on New Year’s Day in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana, the Government has deemed it necessary to further strengthen preventive measures and oversight.

At the request of the Minister of State, the Technical Commission for Hygiene, Safety and Environmental Protection has been tasked with carrying out additional inspections in the establishments concerned, as well as raising awareness among operators about strict compliance with safety regulations, particularly those relating to fire risks and public evacuation procedures.

At the same time, the Minister of State has called for the rapid preparation of a regulatory amendment aimed at prohibiting the use of any type of pyrotechnic device in enclosed spaces throughout the Principality, including so-called “bengal flares”, which are sometimes used in festive settings.

This decision reflects Monaco’s long-standing commitment to anticipating risks and safeguarding the public, based on the expertise of State technical services and a thorough understanding of local venues and practices, with the ultimate goal of preventing accidents and ensuring safe events under all circumstances.
