Since October 11, Menton has been taking part in the Fête Nationale du Sol Vivant, a nationwide celebration running throughout France until October 26, 2025.
This initiative invites citizens, schools, and professionals to explore the extraordinary richness hidden beneath our feet: the soil.
Through hands-on workshops, guided visits, and moments of learning, the Ville de Menton is offering an engaging educational journey to highlight how crucial this living resource is for the health of our planet.
On Saturday, October 18, the first event, titled “À chaque sol, son usage” (Each soil, its purpose), transformed the Voûte n°1 on the Esplanade des Sablettes into a lively space of discovery.
Adults and children aged eight and above were invited to explore the diversity of soils and their essential role in maintaining natural balance.
Through interactive activities, participants observed the hidden life beneath the ground and learned how every soil type contributes to ecosystem health.
Today, Monday, October 20, the celebration continues with a guided tour of the composting site “Terres en Partage”, located on Route de Super Garavan.
This visit, aimed primarily at professionals in the restaurant and catering sectors, offers a practical look at sustainable organic waste management, showing how compost can turn food scraps into natural nourishment for the soil.
The morning began with a friendly coffee gathering — a perfect moment to exchange experiences and ideas about eco-friendly practices.
On Wednesday, October 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the “Boucle du Compost” workshop will take place again under the Voûte n°1 at the Esplanade des Sablettes.
Open to everyone, this activity will follow the complete compost cycle, from collecting organic waste to transforming it into natural fertilizer.
A simple and inspiring way to understand how small daily actions — sorting, composting, giving back to the soil — can help reduce our environmental footprint and bring new life to the earth.
All activities are free, but registration is required by phone at 06 59 41 20 43 or via email at environnement@ville-menton.fr.
With this initiative, the City of Menton reaffirms its commitment to ecological transition and environmental education, inviting everyone — citizens, families, and professionals — to rediscover the deep connection between earth, life, and sustainability.
