On Wednesday, August 20, the curtain will officially rise on the 18th edition of the Mondial du Théâtre, the World Festival of Amateur Theatre, hosted in the Principality until August 27.
Founded in 1957 and organized every four years by the Studio de Monaco, the event gathers theatre companies from five continents for an international celebration supported by the Princely Government. It is not a competition, but rather an artistic and cultural encounter, highlighting the diversity of theatre traditions while fostering dialogue among cultures, histories, and sensitivities.
This year, 18 countries will participate, each presenting performances that will give audiences a unique insight into global theatrical forms. Shows will take place every evening at 6:00 pm at the Théâtre des Variétés and the Théâtre Princesse Grace, with three performances per night and intermissions for set changes. Admission is free, subject to seat availability.
Alongside the performances, the festival will feature workshops led by international experts, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and theatrical practices, as well as daily colloquia, offering opportunities for artists, critics, and audiences to discuss and reflect on the previous evening’s productions.
The Festival Village will be inaugurated on Wednesday, August 20, at 11:30 am at the Auditorium Rainier III, in the presence of officials, organizers, and participating troupes.
