Monacollecte, which has been very successful, returns this year to the docks of the Port of Monaco. Thanks to the support of the Government of Monaco and in collaboration with the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA) and the Municipality of Monaco, the event will focus on the theme “Fabrics from Every Angle” for the 2025 edition.
As emphasized by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, Monacollecte is the perfect opportunity to promote recycling and the reuse of objects, so that “what is useless to one person can become a resource for another.” In this spirit, the event offers citizens the opportunity to bring items they want to dispose of to a single location.
According to a press release, there will also be a designated area for collecting special household waste. Several charitable organizations, including the Monaco Red Cross, Mission Enfance, Les Amis du Liban, Fight Aids Monaco, Semeurs d’Espoir, La Fondation de Nice, and Soleil Royal 06, will be collecting reusable items such as clothes, toys, books, computer equipment, and small household appliances. Items that cannot be reused will be sent to SMA’s recycling and treatment facilities for proper disposal (such as batteries, lightbulbs, paints, gas canisters, etc.).
Additionally, there will be educational workshops to raise awareness about the reuse of objects and the reduction and recycling of waste. Among the free activities offered are an escape game, creative workshops, virtual reality experiences, a fashion show, exhibitions (such as textile frescoes and denim creation), and informational booths to engage as many people as possible in sustainable practices like reuse, sorting, and recycling—all while having fun.
The Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain (Department for Urban Development) is supporting the event by financing the informational and educational activities, as well as providing plants to beautify the area. One of the main highlights will be an Escape Game dedicated to waste differentiation, reduction, and reuse, managed by SMA’s waste prevention and recycling experts. The game will feature the typical mechanics of escape games, challenging participants to dig, manipulate, think, and solve puzzles.
