In a context where home care for the elderly is an increasing priority, the Principality of Monaco, and more specifically the Monaco Gerontological Coordination Center (C.C.G.M.), is launching a new service: the night itinerant guards. This service, unprecedented in the Principality, aims to provide personalized night-time assistance for seniors with loss of autonomy while also supporting their caregivers.
Designed to enable elderly people to remain in their homes under optimal conditions, this new offering includes night visits of a maximum of 45 minutes, once or twice per night, according to the recommendations established after a gerontological evaluation carried out by the C.C.G.M.
Thanks to a partnership with personal service companies accredited by the Sovereign Government, qualified home helpers will intervene to:

  • Secure the home (shutters, gas, etc.);
  • Monitor the prepared medication intake;
  • Calm night-time anxieties;
  • Provide care or mobilizations (late bedtime, changes, personal hygiene);
  • Assist with using the toilet or provide appropriate assistance.
    This system not only meets the needs of seniors but also preserves their autonomy and peace of mind.

A welcome respite for caregivers
Caregivers, often required to be available day and night, will benefit from valuable support through this service.
By stepping in during the night, the itinerant guards offer them essential rest time, thus reducing mental and physical strain.

A proactive and exemplary approach
Promoted by the C.C.G.M. and the Monegasque Government, this initiative reflects Monaco’s commitment to supporting aging in dignity at home. The service is also eligible for coverage under the Autonomy Benefit, provided it is part of a comprehensive care plan that includes daytime interventions.
“With this innovative service, Monaco positions itself as a model for supporting the elderly, combining innovation, humanity, and respect for seniors’ life choices,” says Mr. Philippe MIGLIASSO, Senior Health Officer – Administrator behind the creation of this service.
