The 29th edition of the Monaco International Judo Tournament (TIJM) will welcome the best European judokas to the Principality on Sunday, December 8, 2024. The steering committee of the Monaco Judo Federation has renewed the initiative introduced by President Gérard Bertrand for a team tournament bearing his name since 2015: the “Gérard Bertrand Trophy.”
This 2024 edition will also be an occasion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Monaco Judo Federation for its President Sophie Vincent, the Tournament Director Florence Garcia, and the National Technical Director François Bick, with support from Technical Advisor Marcel Pietri, who has also worked on creating the 50th-anniversary commemoration of the Monaco Judo Federation.
Following the extraordinary Paris Olympic Games, where Judo thrilled the sports world with an unforgettable team final that saw France triumph over Japan on home soil, the Gaston Médecin Hall, usually home to the Roca Team, will also resonate with the excitement of Judo, hosting over 100 international judokas.
Each team will field seven fighters (one per weight category), with the first team to win four matches declared the victor. Fourteen teams will compete in a single-elimination bracket with automatic repechage. Each team will compete in a minimum of two matches throughout the day.
The list of participants will be announced at the beginning of December and is expected to include the usual nations seen at Monaco, including France, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy, Portugal, Lithuania, some last-minute surprises, as well as elite French clubs.
