On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the death of Jean Cocteau, the museum conceived by himself as a testimony to his art is returning to its historical arrangement.
Jean Cocteau died on October 11, 1963, leaving behind a body of work as rich as it was incredibly varied. The question of his legacy and the future of his art was one of the artist’s main concerns in his final years, and Menton provided the solution by offering him the Bastion to set up his museum. In this showcase, decorated by Cocteau himself, he wanted to exhibit some of the most emblematic works of his dazzling career: colorful pastels, monumental tapestries, surprising paintings, and bold ceramics make up the original collection of this true testament museum… Not to mention the famous series of “Lovers,” drawings that perfectly embody the artist’s Mediterranean inspiration. Sixty years after the death of the Prince of Poets, the Musée Jean Cocteau – le Bastion has returned to showcase his historical work, paying a vibrant tribute to his guardian artist, taking up the words he wanted engraved on his tombstone: “Je reste avec vous” (“I stay with you”).

Between fine arts and applied arts, Julien des Monstiers explores the limits of painting, simultaneously seeking depth, surfaces, textures, folds, and fractures. These works presented at Suquet des Artistes, whether figurative or abstract, aim to demonstrate that the subject is not in the image but in the way it is created.

A New Zealand artist living in France, George Nuku is of Maori descent on his mother’s side from the Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Tuwharetoa tribes. He began working in communities in 1988 and embarked on an artistic career that took him to Europe, the United States, and Asia. Today, he is one of the leading figures in the Maori art scene. In 2014, he began a series of exhibitions in polystyrene and plexiglass that evoke the ocean and the issue of plastic waste thrown into it. These works have been exhibited in many museums worldwide.
The exhibition at the Musée du Masque de Fer et du Fort Royal presents a selection of the artist’s works and installations inspired by the Lérins Islands and the history of the Iron Mask. The Picasso Museum offers a unique experience: presenting twelve masterful works by Joan Miró, from one of the world’s most important private collections, the Nahmad Collection. Miró is here at home, like a guest in his friend’s house. Because the friendship that bound the two artists from their first meeting in Paris in 1920 was also a ferment of their creative passion. The rooms host only one work, sometimes two. Unlike the traditional exhibition that gathers and associates, it is no longer about accumulation but about concentration and reception of the object in its singularity for contemplation and interpretation.
From June 4th to June 29th, 2024 Installation of the summer exhibition and closure of the first floor. Discounted entry with access to the second floor, ground floor, and terrace.

As a maritime and frontier city, Antibes has long had to defend itself, and much of its heritage is directly inherited from this context. The Saracen towers, the ancient Grimaldi castle, the Fort Carré, the walls of the Saint-Jaume bastion at the Saint-André bastion, are all markers in our urban planning of a violent reality, of the fear of raids, looting, bombings, in a word, of war. But what is war? This year, Fort Carré’s programming proposes viewpoints, reflections on commitment, duty of memory, on the traumas it generates: thematic visits, workshops, museum cafés for discussions, a cinema visit around Roberto Rossellini’s Paisà, and a theatricalized walk in collaboration with the Conservatory of Music and Drama of Antibes.
