As part of the initiatives promoted by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, to celebrate the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Impressionism, the Museum of Fine Arts in Draguignan is hosting an exceptional loan from the Musée d’Orsay until June 23, 2024: the painting ‘Étude.Torse, effet de soleil,’ presented by Renoir in 1876 during the second Impressionist exhibition.
This masterpiece, exceptionally displayed at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Draguignan, offers the opportunity to deepen our understanding of the painter Auguste Renoir and his role in the Impressionist movement, with a particular focus on the theme of portraiture.
On the occasion of the centenary of the first Impressionist exhibition, the Museum of Fine Arts in Draguignan will also present other works by Auguste Renoir:
One of his major works, ‘L’Enfant au biscuit,’ an oil painting depicting the artist’s son, Jean. The painting will be exhibited alongside a lithograph made by Renoir at the request of Ambroise Vollard for his third album of original prints; An engraving, ‘La Baigneuse debout à mi-jambe,’ whose iconography is very similar to that of the Parisian portrait.
The combination of these four works will allow visitors to appreciate the freedom of brushwork and the great modernity of Auguste Renoir.
In addition to thematic tours, on June 2, 2024, the museum will host Paul Perrin, Director of Collections at the Musée d’Orsay, for a conference on portrait Impressionism.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Draguignan is located at 9 Rue de la République.
