The 2024 edition marks the 18th Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, which will take place from November 20 to December 1.
This exclusive festival offers a series of intimate concerts at the Opéra Garnier in Monte-Carlo, where the best jazz artists will perform in a unique atmosphere.
These two weeks of live music, set against the stunning backdrop of the Opéra Garnier, are the result of a closely coordinated project, which gives the event its special significance. The 2024 edition takes the audience on a fascinating journey through the world of jazz, from its traditional roots to modern influences, exploring the riffs of big bands and the vibrant energy of scat vocals.
The festival opens today with emerging talents from the Académie Rainier III, symbolizing the future of jazz. The following day, a must-see event will feature the Count Basie Orchestra, the legendary big band rooted in the Kansas City style, and the Dal Sasso Big Band, which will pay tribute to Chick Corea. Throughout the festival, which offers many different musical perspectives, there will also be long-time friends such as the iconic Dee Dee Bridgewater and saxophonist Stefano di Battista, performing together in a special evening. The festival also celebrates the origins of jazz with performances by Ayo and Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade, offering a unique sensory experience.
The musical lineup is further enriched by the pop-funk of British group Level 42 and the contemporary jazz trio Emile Londonien, a representative of the London jazz scene. The festival reaches its peak with a world evening combining the Cuban rhythms of Cimafunk with Seun Kuti’s Afrobeat. On the emotional side, the festival will also feature instrumental performances by M & Thibault Cauvin and harpist and singer Sophye Soliveau. To complete the range of styles, two charismatic voices will also take the stage: the rising star Stella Cole, who has gained fame on TikTok, and crooner Mario Biondi, known for his unique voice that moves audiences.
Live concerts will be held at the prestigious Salle Garnier, but the festival experience doesn’t stop there. Before and after the performances, the Casino de Monte-Carlo’s rotunda will be transformed to host exclusive events. Additionally, two film screenings will enrich the festival’s cultural offering: the film Ascenseur pour l’échafaud, in collaboration with the Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco, and the film concert Whiplash.
