Sanremo, known for its Festival of Song and its splendid Riviera, hosts the Sanremo Summer Symphony every year, a summer musical event that transforms the city into a stage of notes and magic. August 2024 promises to be particularly vibrant, with a series of events ranging from classical music to jazz performances and international artists’ shows. “THE AMERICAN MYTH”
with the SANREMO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Conducted by Maestro Ernesto Colombo
The concert is an “a cappella” journey into early 20th century American music tied to gospel, jazz, swing, and the great Cinema. A path that starts with gospel and spiritual songs, traverses the great authors of the ’30s, and develops by intersecting musicals from George Gershwin to Leonard Bernstein up to the ’50s, also considering the influence of American music and swing on some of our composers. Finally, it reaches Cinema with some unforgettable songs associated with Walt Disney cartoons and the movie “Saturday Night Fever” from the late ’70s. All through original and fun arrangements written specifically for the “Alti e Bassi” a cappella vocal quintet.

“HAPPY CONCERT”
with the SANREMO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
A concert that will amaze, entertain, and bring happiness to the audience! The duo, Aleksey Igudesman on violin and Hyung-ki Joo on piano, named this show “Happy Concert”. The aim is to create, piece by piece, an unstoppable increase in happiness capable of immunizing against all the problems of the world… at least for the duration of the concert! An electrifying mix of variations for symphony orchestra and soloists on themes from the Ninth Symphony. A kaleidoscopic musical journey that circles the world from Bonn to Boston and back, with entertaining mashups that have made the duo famous worldwide, thanks to social media as well.

On stage, with the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, a true ambassador of Italian Jazz in the world: saxophonist Francesco Cafiso, together with his quartet. They will perform live the famous project “Charlie Parker With Strings,” a recording from the ’50s that includes a repertoire of compositions that have directly entered history: “Summertime,” “I’m in the mood for love,” “Laura,” “Just Friends,” and many more. A feast for lovers of musical aesthetics and the best bebop tradition. A pure jazz concert!

“BRAZIL”
with the SANREMO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Conducted by Maestro Gerardo Estrada
A multifaceted and colorful journey into 20th century Latin American music. A program capable of perfectly rendering the richness of the popular musical heritage of Latin America with very well-known pieces in which Caribbean and Cuban rhythms echo, the notes of popular dances resound, Mexican folklore, and the legendary figures of Argentine gauchos of the pampas come to life. An engaging concert directed by Gerardo Estrada Martínez, Venezuelan violinist and percussionist, considered one of the most interesting emerging conductors on the international scene.
