Lent is a meaningful 40-day period during which Catholics around the world prepare for the celebration of Easter. This time symbolizes the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert after their exodus from Egypt, before entering the Promised Land, as well as the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, where He was tempted by the devil. It is a time marked especially by fasting, prayer, and almsgiving.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year falls on March 5th. The schedule for all the Masses with the imposition of Ashes in the diocese is provided in the attached document.

Lent Online: “Lent with the Saints”

As in previous years, a short meditation video of approximately three minutes will be posted daily across the diocese’s social media channels (YouTube, X – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok). The daily reflections are created in collaboration with the Dominican Brothers from the Province of Toulouse (www.dominicains.com). The participating friars are:

  • Fr. Antoine ODENDALL, from the Marseille convent (on holiness)
  • Fr. Charles DESJOBERT, from the Paris convent (on Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati)
  • Fr. Aimeric JARDIN, from the Toulouse convent (on Saint Augustine)
  • Fr. Gilbert NARCISSE, from the Bordeaux convent (on Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity)
  • Fr. Jacques AMBEC, from the Toulouse convent (on Saint John of God)
  • Fr. François DAGUET (on Saint Catherine of Siena)
  • Fr. Paul-Dominique de MALLET (on Saint Mary Magdalene)
