Lent is a meaningful 40-day period during which Catholics around the world prepare for the celebration of Easter. This time symbolizes the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert after their exodus from Egypt, before entering the Promised Land, as well as the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, where He was tempted by the devil. It is a time marked especially by fasting, prayer, and almsgiving.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year falls on March 5th. The schedule for all the Masses with the imposition of Ashes in the diocese is provided in the attached document.

As every year, the diocese is offering a day of retreat to begin Lent. This year it will be held on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, at the FANB Rocher School. It will be led by Mons. Emmanuel GOBILLIARD, Bishop of Digne. The theme of the retreat will be “Strengthening Our Hope to Enter into Joy.”
