The La Malmaison art center in Cannes is hosting, until January 6, 2026, the exhibition «Poussière d’étoiles» by the renowned French sculptor Jean-Michel Othoniel, celebrated for his spectacular glass works and luminous installations.
The exhibition offers an immersive journey into the artist’s creative world, where glass, light, and color intertwine to create a unique sensory experience. Of the 91 works on display, 53 were created specifically for La Malmaison, in harmony with the building’s history and the magic of the Mediterranean, evoking the blue tones of the sea and sky as well as the sparkling lights of the Cannes Film Festival.
Some rooms are transformed into golden landscapes thanks to the Gold Rose and Gold Lotus sculptures, accompanied by powder-pink rivers and suspended Passiflora flowers, symbols of sun and passion. Other rooms reflect the natural panorama of Cannes: reflective blue glass bricks evoke water surfaces that change with the light, creating hypnotic and captivating effects.
Born in Saint-Étienne in 1964, Jean-Michel Othoniel studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and has established himself as one of France’s most innovative contemporary artists, blending sculpture, architecture, and installation into visually striking works. Drawing inspiration from ancient and modern cultures, nature, and myths, Othoniel transforms glass into light and poetry, creating works that are fragile yet powerful, enchanting visitors of all ages.
