The Department of Cultural Affairs presents a program dedicated to Baroque music at the beginning of December, featuring on December 3rd, the Ensemble La Sportelle at the Church of the Sacred Heart, and on December 5th, the Ensemble Concerto Soave at the Chapel of Mercy.
The program “Mater Ecclesia,” proposed by the Ensemble La Sportelle, will present choral works alternated with organ pieces, in a magnificent dialogue between the Germany of Johann Sebastian Bach and the Spain of Alonso Lobo, Tomás Luis de Victoria, and Francisco Guerrero.
La Sportelle is an almond-shaped medallion that commemorates the stay of pilgrims at Rocamadour. Today, it is the name of the vocal ensemble linked to Rocamadour – Musique Sacrée.
Their approach, which serves the sacred repertoire, is rooted in the pursuit of sensitivity and beauty, aiming to evoke emotion and create meaningful encounters with the audience.
The Ensemble Concerto Soave, born from the collaboration of María Cristina Kiehr and Jean-Marc Aymes, cultivates a unique poetic and sonic spirit and explores the Italian repertoire of the seventeenth century, and beyond, extending to contemporary works.
With “Venite, Exultemus,” the Ensemble Concerto Soave, joined by baritone Romain Bockler, will highlight the “Italian-style” motets for bass voice and violins by André Campra and Nicolas Bernier, in which both composers displayed great inventiveness. These motets are an admirable blend of French elegance and nobility with Italian melodic invention, drama, and naturalness.
