The Festival of Transhumance returns to Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée for its 34th edition, promising an unforgettable day for families and friends. This emblematic pastoral event of the Vallée de la Tinée will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, bringing together shepherds, flocks, the local community, and visitors in the heart of the village for a day filled with fun and traditions.

Celebration Program:

  • 10:30 AM: Parade of the flocks through the village streets and blessing (Place de l’Eglise)
  • 10:30 AM: Performance of fifes and drums by the children of the Li Fa Pa Caut group
  • 11:00 AM: Pastoral Mass sung by the choir of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée (Placette des Mules)
  • 11:00 AM: Sheep shearing demonstration (Théâtre de verdure)
  • 12:00 PM: Traditional songs and dances by the schoolchildren of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée (Place de l’Eglise)
  • 12:30 PM: Speeches by the authorities followed by a welcome aperitif
  • 2:00 PM: Botanical walk on edible and medicinal plants, discovering ancient knowledge (meeting at the Tourist Office – Pre-registration at the Guide Tinée Mercantour stand)
  • 2:30 PM: Conference – “The Penitents’ Confraternities: A Tradition of Solidarity and Generosity” by Odile Murris (Chapelle de la Sainte-Croix, des pénitents blancs)
  • 3:00 PM: Sheep shearing demonstration (Théâtre de verdure)
  • 5:00 PM: Return of the herd to the Auron pastures, with the possibility to accompany them. Return to the village by shuttle bus around 7:30 PM (Riou shuttle bus stop). Registration at the Tourist Office.
  • 10:30 PM: Ball of the conscripts (Placette des Mules)
