This is a campaign that, since 2020 in France, targets people who are reflecting on their alcohol consumption and wish to experience a break.
It’s an opportunity to discover the benefits of a month without alcohol: restorative sleep, a boost in energy, lower blood pressure, better concentration, weight loss, fresher and more beautiful skin, savings…
It also helps identify instances where alcohol consumption is not a deliberate choice but rather a routine.
The challenge rule is simple: no alcohol from the moment you wake up on January 1st until the end of the month. Each person does it with their own objectives and in their own way to allow reflection on their relationship with alcohol, analyze their control capacities, and recognize the benefits of this break.
According to public health figures, nearly a quarter of the adult population exceeds the recommended alcohol consumption guidelines, which suggest no more than two alcoholic drinks per day, and not every day.
Even in small amounts, alcohol presents health risks, so “Dry January” gives a good reason to take stock of one’s consumption.
After the end-of-year holidays, which sometimes involve excesses, “Dry January” provides the opportunity to give your body a break and realize that there are other ways to enjoy social moments. After this pause, alcohol consumption decreases, and the awareness persists; the control over consumption continues well beyond January.
You can register at https://dryjanuary.fr/ to receive tips, experience-sharing, and even alcohol-free cocktail recipes throughout January.
For those dependent on alcohol, sudden cessation of consumption can be dangerous. Therefore, they can choose to engage in treatment, and it’s important to be accompanied.
