The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) presents at Villa Paloma the major exhibition “Victor Brauner, L’Aventure magique”, on view from 3 July 2026 to 3 January 2027. The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most important figures of international Surrealism, the artist Victor Brauner (1903–1966), and offers an immersive journey into his richly symbolic, imaginative and esoteric artistic universe.
This exhibition provides a unique opportunity to rediscover an artist who remains relatively unknown to the wider public, despite his key role in 20th-century avant-garde movements.
Curated with a scenography by Christophe Martin, “L’Aventure magique” explores the complete creative universe of Victor Brauner, an artist influenced by Romanian avant-garde movements, André Breton’s Surrealism, and a deep interest in mythology and esotericism.
His visual language is marked by a strong symbolic and fantastical dimension, where dreamlike imagery and imaginary figures merge into a distinctive artistic style.
The exhibition brings together more than 160 works, including:
The works span the entirety of Brauner’s career, from the 1920s to the 1960s, offering a comprehensive overview of his artistic and conceptual evolution.
All pieces come from an exceptional private collection based in Monaco, making the exhibition particularly rare and significant on an international level.
The exhibition also includes ten extra-Western art objects that once belonged to Victor Brauner, on loan from the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole.
These objects help contextualize the artist’s practice and highlight the diverse cultural and symbolic sources that influenced his work.
Brauner’s work is characterized by a rich and layered visual language in which:
This combination creates a deeply personal artistic universe where the boundaries between reality and imagination constantly blur.
According to curator Camille Morando, the exhibition aims to make the work of this major 20th-century artist accessible to a wider audience through a unique private collection showcasing some of the most singular and captivating works of the century.
“Victor Brauner, L’Aventure magique” further confirms the NMNM’s role as an international cultural reference point, presenting high-profile exhibitions dedicated to key figures in modern art.
