On Tuesday, October 15, the Pelagos and RAMOGE Agreements organized their first joint event focused on marine environmental protection, held at the Middle East and Mediterranean campus of Sciences Po Paris in Menton.
Hosted by the French Riviera Agglomeration Community (CARF), the event brought together authorities from the three countries that are signatories to each Agreement, as well as elected officials and representatives from municipalities that have signed the Pelagos Partnership Charter. Managers of the Protected Marine Areas and National Parks within the Pelagos Sanctuary and the RAMOGE area were also present, along with Pelagos Ambassadors and partners of both Agreements.
This day resulted from active collaboration following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Secretariats of the RAMOGE and Pelagos Agreements on March 22, at the close of the Monaco Ocean Week 2024, attended by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
During the morning session, the Secretariats presented their activities in marine environmental protection, focusing particularly on pollution reduction efforts.
In the afternoon, participants divided into two roundtables, focusing respectively on the actions of local authorities and Protected Marine Areas, and on enhancing partnerships with yachtsmen registered as Pelagos Ambassadors, in an exercise of collective intelligence.
The outcomes of these discussions will be refined by both Secretariats and reviewed within their respective working groups for presentation to decision-making bodies.
The day concluded with the unveiling of a mural created by Monegasque artist Anthony Alberti, known as Mr. One Teas, in collaboration with Sciences Po students and event participants.
Building on the success of this first joint event, the RAMOGE and Pelagos Agreements plan to continue and strengthen their cooperation in the future.
