Summer 2026 is set to be extraordinary for both residents and visitors choosing the French Riviera and the Alpes-Maritimes as their destination. From June 26 to August 31, the region will host more than 450 free events across over 150 municipalities, stretching from the Mediterranean coastline to the Alpine valleys of southeastern France.

Concerts, theatre performances, jazz evenings, dance shows, contemporary circus acts, literary events and cultural gatherings will transform town squares, castles, gardens, ports and historic centers into vibrant places of entertainment and community life, confirming the Alpes-Maritimes as one of the most dynamic cultural destinations of the European summer.

Les Soirées Estivales Celebrate 30 Years of Free Culture

The year 2026 marks a significant milestone for the renowned Les Soirées Estivales program, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this summer.

Created in 1996 by the Alpes-Maritimes Department, the initiative revolutionized cultural programming by bringing free performances to small towns and villages, including areas far from major urban centers. Today, it is considered one of France’s most successful examples of accessible and inclusive cultural development.

The new season was officially presented at the Departmental Museum of Asian Arts in Nice by Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, who reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring free access to high-quality cultural experiences for both residents and visitors.

The schedule includes:

Brazil Takes Center Stage in the 2026 Cultural Season

One of the most exciting themes of the 2026 edition is a special tribute to Brazil, which will be featured throughout the summer program.

The rhythms of samba, traditional sounds from northeastern Brazil and vibrant Brazilian cultural traditions will inspire numerous concerts and artistic events, creating a unique cultural bridge between the Mediterranean and South America.

This international focus further enhances the diversity and appeal of the Alpes-Maritimes summer season.

Festival des Mots: Literature Takes the Spotlight

Among the major highlights of the summer is the Festival des Mots, scheduled from July 17 to August 8, 2026.

The festival will travel across eight municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes, offering public readings, literary encounters and performances celebrating the French language and contemporary literature.

Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by some of France’s most acclaimed actors and artists, including Raphaël Quenard, Valérie Bonneton, Lionnel Astier and Alice Pol.

Over the years, the Festival des Mots has become one of the most anticipated literary events on the French Riviera.

Jazz Art Lympia: Nice Harbor Becomes an Open-Air Jazz Club

Jazz enthusiasts will be able to enjoy weekly performances every Thursday from July 16 to August 20 at the Espace Culturel Lympia in Nice.

The venue’s panoramic terrace overlooking the harbor will host Jazz Art Lympia, a series of concerts combining live jazz performances with breathtaking Mediterranean sunsets and spectacular waterfront views.

The event continues to be one of the most elegant and popular summer gatherings in Nice.

Folies des Lacs: Music and Nature in the Heart of Mercantour

Among the most original events of the 2026 season is Folies des Lacs, taking place on July 19 in La Colmiane.

From noon until 5:30 p.m., the alpine lake will become the setting for concerts, entertainment and performances inspired by Brazilian music and culture.

Visitors will enjoy a unique experience combining live music, outdoor activities and the stunning natural scenery of the Mercantour National Park.

Supporting Local Artists and Promoting Regional Heritage

One of the most significant aspects of the program is its strong commitment to supporting local talent.

According to the Alpes-Maritimes Department, 99% of participating artists come from within the region, helping to promote emerging talent as well as established performers.

The initiative also generates substantial tourism and economic benefits by encouraging visitors to discover lesser-known villages and hidden gems throughout the French Riviera hinterland.

Exhibitions, Museums and Cultural Heritage Complete the Program

In addition to live performances, the summer cultural season will feature major exhibitions hosted in departmental museums across the region.

Contemporary art, photography, history and heritage exhibitions will complement the live events, offering visitors a comprehensive cultural experience throughout the summer.

Why Summer 2026 in the Alpes-Maritimes Is Not to Be Missed

With more than 450 free performances, over 150 participating municipalities and two months of continuous programming, the Alpes-Maritimes Summer Cultural Season stands out as one of the premier events on the French Riviera.

The combination of free access, heritage preservation, support for local artists and a widespread presence throughout the territory makes this initiative a successful model that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
