The evening of 9 August 2026 will be the highlight of the celebration. Drone technology will meet the charm of the ancient fortified walls in a unique visual performance that will precede the famous “embrasement du village”, the spectacular lighting of the village walls, one of the most impressive summer events on the French Riviera.

A centuries-old celebration of faith, history and Provençal culture

The Sainte Claire Festival has been one of the most important events in the community life of Saint-Paul-de-Vence for more than three centuries.

The celebration is dedicated to Saint Clare of Assisi, founder of the Order of Poor Clares and one of the most important figures of medieval spirituality. The tradition began in the 17th century, during a difficult period for Provence marked by epidemics, conflicts and economic hardship. The inhabitants of the village entrusted themselves to the protection of the saint, and over the years the religious celebration evolved into a shared moment of memory, community and togetherness.

Today, the festival still preserves its authentic character: the evening candlelit procession crosses the stone streets of the historic centre, accompanying residents and visitors from the collegiate church to the chapel dedicated to Sainte Claire.

The 2026 edition marks a new chapter in the history of the festival thanks to the arrival of cutting-edge drone technology.

On Sunday 9 August at 10:30 pm, the French company Magic Drones will create an aerial performance featuring 400 three-dimensional illuminated drones, forming images, symbols and shapes inspired by the history of the village and its traditions.

The sky above Saint-Paul-de-Vence will become a digital stage: hundreds of points of light will move in perfect synchronisation above the houses, towers and Renaissance fortifications.

Immediately afterwards, the traditional “embrasement du village” will take place, recreating the effect of flames surrounding the village walls. Although it is not a real fire, the spectacular performance transforms the 16th-century fortifications into a monumental display of light, colour and visual effects.

Two weeks of events celebrating local traditions, music and community

The Sainte Claire Festival 2026 will not only be about spectacular performances, but also about experiencing Provençal culture through a rich programme of events.

The celebrations will begin on 6 August with activities for families:

• traditional wooden games;
• treasure hunts for children;
• pétanque tournaments, the iconic Provençal sport.

Throughout the two-week celebration, visitors will also enjoy:

• evening dances in the village squares;
• community gatherings;

• religious celebrations;
• local food events.

One of the most anticipated moments will be the Saint Roch Festival on 16 August, when around 300 pan bagnat sandwiches will be distributed free of charge. This traditional speciality from Nice is prepared with tuna, hard-boiled eggs, anchovies, tomatoes, peppers, onions, olives and extra virgin olive oil.

The festival will close with the traditional pétanque tournaments on 13 and 20 August, confirming the strong connection between popular celebrations and Provençal culture.

• the upper school parking area.

Between 8:00 pm and midnight, temporary road closures, traffic diversions and parking restrictions will be introduced.

External parking areas will be available and connected to the village by free shuttle buses to make access easier for visitors.
