A medieval village, atmospheric alleyways and an enchanting world of spells and fantasy: on Saturday 24 October, Saint-Martin-Vésubie will transform into a village inspired by the adventures of Harry Potter as Expecto Luminos, the festival dedicated to magic and imagination, returns for its fifth edition.

Located in the Alpes-Maritimes, on the edge of Mercantour National Park, the village will welcome visitors for a day filled with fantasy-themed settings, interactive activities, artisan creations and imaginary worlds. The historic centre, with its stone buildings, covered passageways and narrow streets, will provide a natural backdrop for an event designed for families, children and fans of the famous magical universe.

The initiative was launched in 2022 by Sarah and Marjorie, two Harry Potter enthusiasts. With the support of Émilien, then president of the local festivities committee, the event gradually developed into an established attraction. This year, a dedicated association has taken over the project, bringing together volunteers responsible for the decorations, themed settings and activities.

Beyond entertainment, Expecto Luminos also aims to showcase the village’s historic heritage by turning its distinctive architecture into an immersive journey through mystery, creativity and local traditions.

Expecto Luminos 2026: A Magical Treasure Hunt Through the Historic Centre

The programme begins at 9:45 am, when visitors can collect their Expecto Luminos passport free of charge from the village square. The passport includes a map and instructions for taking part in the Grimoire of Scales treasure hunt, one of the festival’s main attractions.

The route will guide participants of all ages through a series of fantasy-inspired settings. Highlights include the famous Platform 9¾, the Dark Alley and the Screaming Cave, creating an itinerary filled with clues, mysteries and surprises.

The treasure hunt offers a fun way to explore the village while following clues and discovering the installations scattered throughout its streets. It combines adventure, exploration and teamwork, inviting visitors to become active participants in the magical experience.

Throughout the day, the streets of Saint-Martin-Vésubie will host a wide range of themed activities. The programme includes activities dedicated to spells and magical botany, a mushroom exhibition and Lego creations inspired by the Harry Potter universe.

Several themed photo spots will also be available, allowing visitors to capture memorable moments in settings filled with references to the world of magic.

More than 30 exhibitors will bring the historic centre to life with themed objects, decorations and handmade creations. Their stalls will offer visitors the opportunity to discover original products and crafts while enjoying the festival atmosphere.

The event combines entertainment, craftsmanship and local heritage, involving creative professionals and community members in bringing the village to life.

The Wizards’ Choir and Afternoon Entertainment

Music will play an important role in the Expecto Luminos programme. At 2 pm, the “Wizards’ Choir” performance is scheduled, featuring the choirs of l’Amitié, Beuil and the Port of Nice.

This musical event will add a communal dimension to the festival, complementing the games, performances and activities taking place throughout the village.

With its treasure hunt, imaginative settings and interactive entertainment, Expecto Luminos will offer plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the festival’s magical atmosphere and experience the historic centre in a completely different way.

Magical Workshops and Escape Game: Which Activities Cost Extra?

One of the appealing features of Expecto Luminos is that most of its activities are free. Festival entry, the grimoire treasure hunt and the scheduled entertainment are all available at no charge.

Some creative workshops require payment, including activities where participants can make magic wands, experiment with potion-making and carve pumpkins.

For those looking for an even more immersive experience, an escape game organised by a partner is also available. Sessions are scheduled for 11 am and 3 pm, and advance booking is compulsory.

The winners of the treasure hunt are due to be announced through a prize draw, according to the organisers’ programme. Visitors are advised to consult official event announcements for further details, workshop prices and escape game booking arrangements.
