Monaco participated in the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which took place from March 11th to 22nd, 2024, in New York, under the theme of combating poverty.
Ms. Alyson CALEM-SANGIORGIO, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Monaco, shared news about new laws enacted by H.S.H. Prince Albert II for compensating victims of violence and for maternity leave for self-employed workers. She also highlighted the campaigns of the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights and the strength of the Monegasque collective committed to women’s rights. Finally, she shed light on the programs of Monaco’s Cooperation for Women’s Empowerment in Africa and Monaco’s support for the UN Women’s ‘Sport for Generation Equality’ framework. H.E. Ms. Isabelle PICCO, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco, also participated in the event ‘Partnerships and Multi-Stakeholder Practices to Advance Gender Equality, Human Rights, and Democracy’ alongside H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, former President of the General Assembly, and Ms. Samira Asghari, member of the International Olympic Committee and captain of the Afghanistan women’s basketball team. On this occasion, she emphasized the power of sport for gender equality and the importance of partnerships in implementing public policies and for concrete actions on the ground.
