On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Monaco will pay tribute to its Liberation from German occupation with a commemorative ceremony organized by the Fédération des Groupements Français de Monaco and the Comité de Commémoration d’Époque. The day will feature a historic parade with vintage vehicles and reenactors dressed as American soldiers, evoking the arrival of Allied troops in 1944.
The Ceremony
The civil ceremony will take place at the Maison de France and will feature the participation of civil and military authorities, institutional representatives, and citizens. The program includes the welcome of the vintage vehicle parade, official speeches, wreath-laying in memory of the fallen, and a minute of silence.
The Parade
The commemorative parade will wind its way through the city on board jeeps and vintage military vehicles, with stops planned in front of the Maison de France and the Rock. The participants, dressed in uniforms faithfully recreated in the style of 1944 US soldiers, will carry the Stars and Stripes and distribute chocolate bars to residents, recalling the affectionate generosity of Allied soldiers during the Liberation.
A Symbolic Gesture
The participation of five American members of the MonacoUSA association will make the tribute even more meaningful, representing a bridge between generations and nations. MonacoUSA Director Annette Ross Anderson said: “My father was a decorated American sailor and prisoner of war during World War II. He would be very proud to see his daughter honoring those who fought for Europe’s freedom.”
A Message of Peace and Solidarity
The commemoration represents not only a tribute to historical memory but also a message of peace, gratitude, and international solidarity. In the afternoon, MonacoUSA will participate in the official ceremony at the Monaco Cemetery, where wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial and on the graves of resistance fighters René Borghini and Joseph Lajoux.
