A delegation* led by the Minister of State for Interior, Lionel BEFFRE, participated in the 18th Conference of Sports Ministers in Porto, from October 8 to 10, 2024, whose main theme was good governance in sport. On this occasion, the Minister of State was elected Vice-President of this Conference, which brought together the 46 member states of the Council of Europe, as well as Israel, Morocco, the Holy See, and numerous international sports organizations and associations.
Lionel BEFFRE reaffirmed Monaco’s commitment to the principles of good governance in sport, which are reflected in the draft sports law submitted to the National Council. He also expressed the honor of hosting the next Ministerial Conference, which was officially scheduled to take place in Monaco in 2026 during this event.
H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince had already announced the hosting of this Conference in His speech delivered on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to the Council of Europe, on October 2, in Strasbourg.
Indeed, the Principality will hold the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during the second half of 2026 and will organize several high-level events, both in Strasbourg and Monaco. The Council of Europe’s Conference of Sports Ministers will be the highlight of Monaco’s presidency.
It is worth noting that Monaco is an active and recognized member of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport of the Council of Europe, as the Principality’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe has held the Presidency of the Statutory Committee of this Agreement since 2016.
