Every year, the city of Nice transforms into a luminous work of art thanks to a large and sustainable installation of Christmas lights and decorations. To minimize environmental impact, only fully recyclable decorative materials and LED lights are used.
The new generation of LED lights is much more efficient than the previous halogen lamps: they offer brightness 5 to 10 times higher, but consume only a tenth of the power.
Since 2018, innovation has not only focused on the technology of the lights but also on the materials used for the structures of the decorations. In the past, many of these elements were made of aluminum, a material with a high carbon footprint. Today, thanks to 3D printing, it is possible to create Christmas decorations using biodegradable materials derived from sugarcane.
This innovative technique significantly reduces waste, as it produces no scraps during the production phase. Additionally, at the end of the life cycle of the decorations, the structure can be ground and reused in the form of granules for new applications, ensuring complete recyclability.
This year, once again, the magic of Christmas will come to life with nearly 1,000 light displays installed across every neighborhood in Nice, shining until January 6, 2025. Cours Saleya and Rue Rossetti are fully illuminated, while Boulevard de Cessole, Avenue Borriglione, and Avenue du Ray have received a new decoration update.
The Christmas Lights by the Numbers
Santa Claus at the Promenade, in front of Lenval Hospital
A towering 8-meter Santa Claus will bring joy to the children at Lenval Hospital, while new decorations made from drawings by young patients will add to the festive atmosphere. These drawings will be displayed in the Christmas village, in the windows of the Nicetoile shopping center, and in the alleys around Gare du Sud, continuing a tradition that takes place every year.
