This Tuesday, February 18, in the Salle des Glaces of the Prince’s Palace, H.S.H. Prince Albert II chaired the official ceremony for the signing of the commemorative plaque of the World Capitals of Sport, in the presence of the highest Monegasque authorities and representatives from the Association of European Capitals of Sport (ACES), marking the designation of the Principality as the World Capital of Sport 2025.
In particular, Mrs. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Acting Minister of State, and Mr. Lionel Beffre, Government Counselor – Minister of the Interior, were present. The official signing of the commemorative plaque symbolizes Monaco’s commitment to the development of sport.
“Sport in the Principality proudly asserts its international prominence because a city-state can be a global reference for an ethical, sustainable, open, and engaged sport,” emphasized H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on this occasion. “I firmly believe in the positive and lasting impact of sports values, which I strive to pass on through the various roles I hold within the Sporting Movement and the International Olympic Committee.”
As the Minister of Foreign Relations and Cooperation, Mrs. Berro-Amadeï handed the symbolic ACES flag to the Sovereign Prince, who immediately entrusted it to Mr. Lionel Beffre, marking the official transfer of the title. The plaque was handed over to Mr. Gianfranco Lupattelli, President of ACES.
Designated World Capital of Sport after Sofia (Bulgaria) in 2024, Monaco’s commitment to sport for all, its modern infrastructure, and its support for international competitions are thus recognized. This label will be visible throughout the year in the Principality during sporting events or celebrations, such as the 40th anniversary of the Louis II Stadium.
