Philosophy returns to the heart of Monaco’s cultural calendar with the Ateliers philo organised by the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco, a year-round programme of free events open to everyone at the Théâtre Princesse Grace.
Designed to make philosophy accessible to a broad audience, the series explores a different question or concept at each session, focusing on subjects that resonate with contemporary society and everyday life. Philosophers, researchers and specialists from a range of disciplines will take part, combining presentations, discussion and direct exchanges with the audience.
The workshops offer an opportunity to explore major questions about human experience from different perspectives, bringing philosophy into dialogue with psychology, literature and the social sciences.
Admission is free, although advance booking is recommended through the official Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco website.
The new programme features six events between October 2026 and March 2027. Each evening will focus on a specific theme, explored by philosophers and researchers from different academic backgrounds.
The first workshop will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 7pm to 9pm, and will focus on “De l’empathie”, or empathy.
The evening will be presented by Robert Maggiori, philosopher and founding member of the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco.
Speakers will include Patricia Attigui, clinical psychologist and emeritus professor at the University of Lyon, Guillaume Le Blanc, philosopher, and Solange Chavel, philosopher at the University of Poitiers.
The interdisciplinary discussion will examine the ability to understand others, human relationships and the role of empathy in contemporary society.
The second workshop will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 7pm to 9pm, and will explore “L’amour d’un père”, or a father’s love.
The session will be presented by Raphael Zagury-Orly, philosopher and founding member of the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco.
The subject will provide an opportunity to reflect on fatherhood and the different ways in which love, responsibility and parent-child relationships can be understood from a philosophical perspective.
December’s session will focus on “Le charme”, or charm.
Taking place on Thursday, December 10, 2026, from 7pm to 9pm, the workshop will once again be presented by Robert Maggiori.
The discussion will explore a concept that may seem familiar in everyday life but raises broader questions about attraction, perception, relationships and the influence that people or experiences can have on others.
The new year will begin with a particularly complex theme: “La haine et la vengeance”, or hatred and revenge.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, January 21, 2027, from 7pm to 9pm, and will be presented by Raphael Zagury-Orly.
The evening will examine two powerful aspects of human experience, exploring their origins, manifestations and consequences through the lens of philosophy.
On February 4, 2027, the series will continue with “Des inégalités”, dedicated to the subject of inequality.
The session, scheduled from 7pm to 9pm, will be presented by Robert Maggiori.
Inequality is one of the major questions addressed by political and social philosophy. The workshop will therefore provide an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between individuals and society, as well as questions of justice and difference.
The final event in the programme will take place on Thursday, March 11, 2027, and will focus on “Le narcissisme”, or narcissism.
The session will be presented by Raphael Zagury-Orly.
The day will also have a special educational dimension. In partnership with the Direction de l’Éducation Nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports, speakers from the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco will spend the day in schools across the Principality.
The school programme will focus on narcissism and give students the opportunity to engage directly with philosophers and specialists.
The Ateliers philo organised by the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco reflect the organisation’s aim of bringing philosophy beyond academic circles and making it accessible to a wider audience.
Held at the Théâtre Princesse Grace, the workshops explore subjects rooted in everyday experience while opening the door to broader philosophical questions and public discussion.
The programme is therefore aimed not only at philosophy enthusiasts, but at anyone interested in exploring questions surrounding human relationships, society and contemporary life.
