The Princess Grace Rose Garden in Monaco is preparing to host one of the most anticipated events of the 8th Monaco International New Rose Competition. On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Monegasque garden will provide the setting for the official awards ceremony, marking an important milestone in the 2026 edition.

The event, open to the public, will bring to a close a competition that began in spring and continued throughout the summer, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to discover new rose varieties and take part in the public vote.

The roses at the heart of the 2026 competition

The 8th Monaco International New Rose Competition is organized by the Association of Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden, together with the Urban Planning Department of the Government of Monaco (DAU).

The competition focuses on new rose varieties, bringing together roses from the international horticultural and rose-breeding world.

The first major stage of the competition took place on April 30, when the official jury assessed the participating roses and awarded several of the main prizes of the 2026 edition: the PIAGET ROSE Trophy, the Perfume Cup, and the Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden Heart Prize.

These awards will now be joined by a distinction chosen directly by visitors.

Public Prize: visitors choose their favorite rose

One of the distinctive features of the competition is the involvement of the public. Throughout the summer season, visitors to the Princess Grace Rose Garden were able to admire the new varieties and vote for their favorite rose.

The result of this public vote will be announced during the ceremony on September 23, when the Public Prize will be presented.

This award provides a different perspective from that of the professional jury. Alongside technical and horticultural criteria, it reflects the direct relationship between the competing roses and the people who had the opportunity to see them throughout the summer.

Monaco’s Grace and Elegance Prize

The September ceremony will also feature the presentation of the Grace and Elegance Prize, awarded by the Soroptimist Club of Monaco.

The prize recognizes a rose distinguished by its beauty, refinement and length of flowering, qualities that contribute to its particular character within the competition.

The award also reflects the values promoted by the Soroptimist Club, including the advancement of women, culture and excellence.

It therefore adds another dimension to the competition, highlighting not only the characteristics of each rose but also its aesthetic qualities and its ability to maintain its appeal throughout the flowering season.

The awards ceremony will also support a charitable cause

The event at the Princess Grace Rose Garden will not be limited to the presentation of awards. The September 23 ceremony will also provide an opportunity to present a contribution to BE SAFE Monaco.

The donation comes from the official sale of roses from the competition, held on May 27. The proceeds will support the association’s activities in the field of road safety and prevention in Monaco.

The competition therefore takes on an additional community dimension, linking the celebration of new rose varieties with a concrete initiative supporting road-safety awareness.
