Following the 2025-2026 season dedicated to the company’s 40th anniversary, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo return to the Principality’s cultural scene with an extensive programme for the 2026-2027 season. From October 29, 2026 to July 25, 2027, Monaco will host major works from the repertoire, new creations, contemporary reinterpretations, international companies and renowned choreographers.

The programme, curated by director and choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, brings together the three institutions that make up Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo: the Company, the Monaco Dance Forum and the Académie Princesse Grace. The calendar will bring dance to Monaco’s leading venues, as well as beyond traditional theatres, with initiatives dedicated to young audiences, education and the dialogue between different artistic disciplines.

Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo open the season with Roméo et Juliette

The 2026-2027 season of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will open at the Salle Garnier of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, from October 29 to November 1, 2026, with Roméo et Juliette by Jean-Christophe Maillot.

The production celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and is one of the company’s best-known works. Performed more than 400 times around the world and taken up by 16 international companies, the ballet offers an original reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy.

The story unfolds through the flashback of Frère Laurent, haunted by remorse and by the question of how such a tragedy could have occurred.

Bronia and Altro Canto at the Grimaldi Forum

From December 19 to 21, 2026, the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco will host an evening featuring two works.

The programme includes Bronia, created by Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa of the Kor’sia company, as a tribute to Bronislava Nijinska, alongside Altro Canto by Jean-Christophe Maillot.

Created in 2006 to Claudio Monteverdi’s Magnificat, Altro Canto also stands out for its costumes designed by fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, adding a strong visual dimension to the choreography.

Ma Bayadère returns to Monaco for the New Year

One of the highlights of the 2026-2027 season will be the return of Ma Bayadère by Jean-Christophe Maillot, presented at the Salle des Princes from December 28, 2026 to January 2, 2027.

The production sold out during the previous season and achieved international success. The ballet takes audiences behind the scenes of a dance company, creating a continuous interplay between reality and fiction.

For these performances, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be accompanied by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Garrett Keast.

Soirée Bartók: two world premieres for spring 2027

The major spring event will be the Soirée Bartók, taking place from April 27 to 30 and on May 2, 2027, at the Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum.

The evening will feature two world premieres inspired by the music of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók: a new version of Le Mandarin merveilleux by Jean-Christophe Maillot and Le Prince de bois by Alexei Ratmansky.

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Elias Grandy.

Maillot’s new version of Le Mandarin merveilleux marks his return to a work he first explored in 1987. Ratmansky, meanwhile, returns to Monaco following the presentation of Wartime Elegy in 2025, with a new creation inspired by Bartók’s The Wooden Prince.

Monaco Dance Forum 2027: international dance and new artistic languages

From April 22 to 26, 2027, the Monaco Dance Forum will bring international artists, companies and choreographers to the Principality.

The programme will open on April 22 at the Salle Garnier with Songs of the Bulbul by Aakash Odedra, a production combining Indian Kathak dance with Sufi mythology.

On April 23, at the Salle Camille Blanc of the Grimaldi Forum, audiences will discover Lever les Yeux, an inclusive dance project created by Cécile Martinez and Compagnie 6eSens. The performance will bring together Monegasque dancers with disabilities and professional dancers.

On April 24, at the Salle Garnier, the WINNDance collective will present Scirocco, a double bill featuring Death in Venice and Bridge of Sighs, performed by former international soloists and étoiles.

On April 26, also at the Salle Garnier, Israel Galván will perform La Consagracion de la Primavera, bringing flamenco into dialogue with Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, accompanied by two pianists.

Dance comes to Place du Palais for the Jeux des Petits États d’Europe

On May 17, 2027, dance will leave the traditional theatre setting and move to Place du Palais for the opening ceremony of the second edition of the Jeux des Petits États d’Europe.

Jean-Christophe Maillot has been appointed artistic director of the ceremony and has entrusted the Ballets de Monte-Carlo’s Cellule pédagogique with the creation of a performance as part of the Choré-Voix project.

The initiative aims to involve younger audiences as well, reinforcing the company’s commitment to dance education and accessibility.

Académie Princesse Grace: the annual Gala

The 2026-2027 season will also include one of the most important events for the training of young dancers.

On June 18 and 19, 2027, at the Salle Garnier, the Académie Princesse Grace will present its traditional end-of-year Gala.

The event will be particularly significant for graduating students preparing to join international dance companies.

La Mégère apprivoisée comes to the Salle Garnier

From June 24 to 27, 2027, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will present La Mégère apprivoisée by Jean-Christophe Maillot at the Salle Garnier for the first time.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s comedy and set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich, the ballet tells the story of the encounter between Katharina and Petruchio through Maillot’s distinctive choreographic language.

See You and Violin Concerto: two choreographic languages in dialogue

From July 8 to 11, 2027, the Salle Garnier will host an evening bringing together See You by Paul Lightfoot and Violin Concerto by George Balanchine.

See You was first presented in Monaco in 2025, while Violin Concerto has been part of the Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo repertoire since 1986. The two works, different in period and choreographic language, reflect the company’s commitment to maintaining a diverse repertoire spanning contemporary and neoclassical dance.

Cendrillon closes the 2026-2027 season

The season will conclude with one of Jean-Christophe Maillot’s most iconic productions: Cendrillon, presented at the Salle Garnier from July 22 to 25, 2027.

Maillot’s reinterpretation of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale, set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, entered the Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo repertoire in 1999 and has become one of the company’s most recognisable productions, performed on major international stages.

Imprévus, Workshops and Pas Croisés: additional events throughout the season

Alongside the main productions, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will offer a series of events designed to provide audiences with a closer look at dance and its leading artists.

The Imprévus will offer performances for a limited audience directly inside the dance studio at the Atelier. The Workshops will provide an opportunity to explore the choreographic worlds connected to the season’s productions.

The Pas Croisés programme will bring dance into the spaces of the Musée National Marc Chagall, creating a dialogue between visual arts and movement.

The season will also include a screening organised in partnership with the Institut Audiovisuel Monaco, featuring Stanley Donen’s Funny Face, starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

The On danse? project for children and teachers

Particular attention will also be devoted to education through the Ballets de Monte-Carlo’s Cellule éducative.

The new On danse? initiative will involve 40 children participating in extracurricular activities, two CM classes and 30 teachers in training.

The project confirms the company’s role not only as an artistic institution, but also as a centre for education and the promotion of dance among younger generations.

Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo on international tour

The 2026-2027 season will extend beyond the Principality. Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will embark on a series of international tours, bringing the company’s repertoire to cities around the world.

Destinations will include Toulon, Antwerp, Brussels, Baku, Cairo, Rabat, Hanover, several cities in China, Cagliari and Ludwigshafen.

The touring programme will include, among other productions, LAC, Roméo et Juliette, Cendrillon, La Mégère apprivoisée and Ma Bayadère.

Tickets and season subscriptions for 2026-2027

Tickets for the 2026-2027 Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo season are available through the company’s official channels and Monte-Carlo Ticket, as well as at the ticket offices located at the Casino Atrium and the Grimaldi Forum.

Two subscription options are available: three shows of your choice or five shows of your choice, both including an invitation to an Imprévu at the Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

The new season confirms Monaco’s position as an international centre for dance, combining Jean-Christophe Maillot’s repertoire with new creations, major international artists, education and initiatives designed to bring dance to new audiences.
