Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo: 2026-2027 Season

The 170th anniversary of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo will be at the heart of the orchestra’s new 2026-2027 season. From September 2026 to July 2027, audiences in the Principality of Monaco will be invited to enjoy a rich and varied programme celebrating the orchestra’s long history while also looking towards the future.

The 2026-2027 season marks an especially significant moment, as it will be the first season under the direction of Nathalie Stutzmann, the orchestra’s new Music Director. Her arrival coincides with this prestigious anniversary and with a programme bringing together major works from the classical repertoire, new proposals and events designed for different audiences.

Overall, the season will feature almost 50 events, including 38 concerts in the Grande Saison, seven Happy Hour Musicaux, one family concert, two events for younger audiences and two spiritual concerts. More than 50 guest artists and three invited choirs will also take part in the programme.

Beethoven, Massenet and leading international artists

One of the key themes of the new season will be the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death, alongside a broad programme covering different periods, styles and musical traditions.

The season will bring together internationally renowned conductors and soloists. The announced names include Marek Janowski, Lawrence Foster, Cristian Măcelaru, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Charles Dutoit and Nathalie Stutzmann herself.

Among the featured soloists are Randall Goosby, Alexandra Dovgan, Daniel Lozakovich, Johan Dalene, Janine Jansen, András Schiff, Elīna Garanča and Christian Van Horn.

Piano music will also have a prominent place in the programme, with recitals by artists including David Kadouch, Piotr Anderszewski, Dmitry Shishkin, Lucas Debargue, Grigory Sokolov, Jorge Luís Prats, Emmanuel Ax, Arcadi Volodos, Mao Fujita and András Schiff.

One of the most notable presences will be Mao Fujita, who has been chosen as artist in residence and will take part in several events throughout the 2026-2027 season.

The season opens at the Auditorium Rainier III

The new Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo season will officially begin on September 13, 2026, at the Auditorium Rainier III.

Bertrand de Billy will conduct the opening concert, with cellist Truls Mørk appearing as soloist. The programme will feature works by Henri Dutilleux and Maurice Ravel, opening a season that will alternate major works from the French and international repertoires.

The opening concert will therefore mark the beginning of a particularly important year for the orchestra, celebrating 170 years of musical history while presenting a programme that combines tradition with a contemporary outlook.

Massenet’s “Roma” in concert version

One of the highlights of the season will be “Roma” by Jules Massenet, presented in concert version on September 26, 2026.

The performance will be conducted by Diego Ceretta and will feature the Chœur de Radio France. The opera will be one of the season’s major events devoted to the lyrical repertoire, further demonstrating the breadth of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo’s programme.

By placing opera alongside symphonic concerts, recitals and chamber music, the orchestra offers audiences the opportunity to explore a wide range of musical genres and periods.

Classical music for families and younger audiences

The 2026-2027 season will not be aimed solely at traditional concert audiences. An important part of the programme will be dedicated to families and younger generations, with events designed to introduce children and teenagers to the world of classical music.

One of the highlights will be “Harry Potter et la sorcellerie dans la musique”, scheduled for October 31, 2026. The Jeune Public series will also feature “Le Petit Prince” and “Le Tricorne”.

These events are designed to make classical music more accessible and engaging for younger audiences through stories, familiar themes and specially adapted concert formats.

Film concerts and the traditional Christmas Concert

The season will also feature events bringing together music and cinema.

On November 4, 2026, the Salle Garnier will host the film concert “Modern Times” by Charlie Chaplin, conducted by Frank Strobel. The event will combine a screening of Chaplin’s iconic film with live orchestral music.

The traditional Christmas Concert will return on December 23, 2026, at Église Saint-Charles. Admission will be free, offering audiences a special musical experience during the festive season.

Chamber music takes centre stage with the Happy Hour Musicaux

Seven Happy Hour Musicaux will provide another distinctive element of the season. These chamber music events will feature musicians from the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo in programmes spanning different eras and styles.

The repertoire will range from Baroque music to contemporary works, offering audiences a more intimate opportunity to discover the orchestra’s musicians and explore pieces that are less frequently heard in large symphonic programmes.

Two concerts dedicated to spirituality

The 2026-2027 season will also include concerts exploring the spiritual dimension of classical music.

On March 18, 2027, the programme will feature Joseph Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross”, with free admission.

A second spiritual event is scheduled for April 4, 2027, conducted by Ton Koopman and featuring the Ensemble vocal de l’Académie Rainier III.

These concerts will add moments of reflection and intimacy to an otherwise wide-ranging musical programme.

The 2026-2027 season closes with a tribute to American cinema

After almost ten months of concerts and performances, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo’s season will conclude on July 4, 2027, with “Hommage au cinéma américain”.

Conducted by Yvan Cassar, the concert will celebrate some of the most memorable music associated with American cinema.

Ending the season with a programme devoted to film music once again highlights the orchestra’s desire to expand beyond the traditional symphonic repertoire and create new connections with its audiences.
