SAINT-PAUL DE VENCE — The story of Yves Montand comes back to life in the streets of Saint-Paul de Vence with a new guided tour dedicated to the artist’s relationship with one of the most famous villages on the French Riviera. Entitled “Yves Montand, une étoile à Saint-Paul”, the tour is organised by the Saint-Paul de Vence Tourist Office.
The experience offers visitors the opportunity to discover a lesser-known side of the artist, who remained closely connected to the village for almost four decades. Through storytelling and a selection of visual materials, the tour retraces Montand’s life in Saint-Paul and the encounters that helped shape both his personal and professional journey.
Actor, singer and internationally renowned performer, Yves Montand was one of the personalities who helped make Saint-Paul de Vence a privileged meeting place for artists and leading figures from the cultural world.
His relationship with the village, however, went far beyond its glamorous reputation. Montand developed a deep and lasting connection with Saint-Paul de Vence, which continued for almost four decades.
The new tour organised by the Tourist Office aims to tell the story of this relationship through the places, people and events that accompanied the artist during his years in the village.
The guided tour begins by exploring the circumstances surrounding Yves Montand’s arrival in Saint-Paul de Vence and the role the village played in his life.
The itinerary then focuses on the encounters that influenced his destiny, bringing together aspects of his private life with his artistic and professional career.
Photographs and other visual materials help recreate the atmosphere of the period and bring Montand’s presence in the village back to life.
More than simply a tour dedicated to a famous personality, the experience offers a journey into the memory of Saint-Paul de Vence and the story of one of the most influential artists of 20th-century French culture.
