Mentone is getting ready to glow in shades of yellow and orange as it welcomes back the Fête du Citron®, one of the most iconic winter events on the French Riviera. From 14 February to 1 March 2026, the city turns into the setting for a one-of-a-kind festival that blends creativity, tradition and spectacular entertainment.
The 2026 edition, themed “The Wonders of the Living World”, invites visitors on an immersive journey through nature, art and imagination. Monumental floats entirely decorated with citrus fruits, daytime and nighttime parades, live performances and a large free exhibition in the Biovès Gardens transform Mentone into a vibrant, living spectacle, while also showcasing the destination Mentone, Riviera & Wonders.
Deeply rooted in local history, the Fête du Citron® attracts around 240,000 visitors every year, confirming its status as one of Europe’s most original events. For more than fifteen days, ephemeral art, citrus fragrances and popular traditions come together in a truly unique sensory experience. In 2019, the festival was officially recognised by the French Ministry of Culture and added to the Inventory of France’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, highlighting its exceptional character.
The historic core of the event since 1936, the Biovès Gardens host a spectacular free exhibition of monumental citrus sculptures made from lemons and oranges. Some of these impressive creations require up to 15 tonnes of fruit and thousands of hours of meticulous handcrafting. Inspired by the year’s theme, the installations can be freely visited throughout the festival. Local producers’ stalls also offer citrus-based specialities, showcasing the flavours of the Menton region.
A highlight of the Fête du Citron®, the Golden Fruit Parades animate Mentone’s seafront with a colourful procession of ten floats adorned with thousands of citrus fruits. Brass bands, musicians, dancers and performers accompany the parade, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere.
Dates: Sunday 15 and 22 February and 1 March 2026, 2.30 pm – Promenade du Soleil.
As night falls, the festival takes on an even more magical dimension. The night parades feature illuminated floats, music and light displays, culminating in a spectacular fireworks show at 10.30 pm.
Dates: Thursday 19 and 26 February 2026, 9.00 pm – Promenade du Soleil.
The Fête du Citron® is also the perfect opportunity to explore Mentone and its surrounding area. Throughout the event, visitors can enjoy guided tours, lemon-themed activities, cultural itineraries and excursions between sea and mountains. From the famous Wedding Hall decorated by Jean Cocteau to Belle Époque palaces and the historic villages of the hinterland, the destination reveals a rich and authentic heritage.
Known as a garden city, Mentone boasts an outstanding botanical heritage, with tropical and botanical gardens and lush vegetation encouraged by its mild winter climate. Between nature, culture and spectacle, the Fête du Citron® 2026 once again promises an unmissable experience, turning winter into a true celebration of life.
