“Tomorrow the Ocean?” Exhibition: An Artistic and Educational Journey for Young Audiences

To make the exhibition Tomorrow the Ocean? accessible and engaging for all, Monaco’s Department of Cultural Affairs offers a program of playful guided tours and creative workshops specifically designed for children of different age groups.

This immersive exhibition invites young visitors to discover the marine world through art, while raising awareness about the major challenges of ocean preservation. Through interactive and creative activities, children are encouraged to express their imagination and develop environmental awareness.

🌊 An Artistic Tribute to the Ocean
With 71 works by 34 artists from five continents, Tomorrow the Ocean? creates a dialogue between contemporary art and climate emergency, offering a journey that explores our relationship with marine ecosystems.
Set in a symbolic location—at the heart of the Principality and on the Mediterranean coast—the exhibition reflects the environmental commitments of H.S.H. Prince Albert I and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, through His Foundation.

🎨 Creative Workshops
Free workshops (reservation required) are available for children until September 5, 2025 at the Exhibition Hall of Quai Antoine I. Each session is tailored to the age of the participants, combining art, sensory discovery, and education:

👶 For ages 3–5 – The Ocean in Colours

📅 Wednesdays, 4:00–5:00 p.m.
Inspired by the works of Lucas Arruda, children play with ocean colors through drawing, shiny paper collages, and transparency effects.
They visually discover the sea, learn the word “biodiversity,” and listen to relaxing marine sounds.

🧒 For ages 6–9

📅 Wednesdays, 2:00–3:00 p.m. – My Sea Painting
Children create a drawing of a character facing the sea, inspired by Claire Tabouret and Farah Atassi.
Discussion on the relationship between humans and the ocean, and the emotions the sea can evoke.

📅 Thursdays, 2:00–3:00 p.m. – Treasure… and Trash Hunt!
Sensory exploration game where children find hidden objects (in sand, seaweed, etc.) and distinguish between natural treasures and man-made waste.
Introduction to sorting and recycling, with reference to Malachi Farrell’s work Fish Flag Mourant.

🧑 For ages 10–14

📅 Thursdays, 4:00–5:30 p.m. – Mission: Ocean
Children take on roles as artists, scientists, or activists and create symbolic artworks to defend an ocean cause (endangered species, pollution, melting ice, etc.).
Artistic creations using various media: drawing, collage, painting, assemblage.

📅 Fridays, 2:00–3:30 p.m. – Art and Climate Emergency
Creation of a visual manifesto using archival images, magazine clippings, and quotes from the exhibition.
Discussion on the link between art and ecology, and the small actions that can make a difference.

🧑‍🎓 For ages 14–18

📅 Fridays, 4:00–5:30 p.m. – In the Shoes of an Ocean Guardian
Abstract painting inspired by an artist or by the personal vision of the ocean.
Discussion on art and environmental protection, and how youth can take part in climate action.
