The Cannes Film Festival has unveiled the official poster for its 78th edition, paying tribute to one of the most iconic moments in cinema history: the unforgettable embrace between Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant in A Man and a Woman, the Palme d’Or winner in 1966, directed by Claude Lelouch.

For the first time in its long-standing tradition, the Festival is releasing two official posters, a symbolic and unprecedented gesture. “Because that embrace—an anagram of eternity—may be the most iconic of the seventh art, and because you cannot separate a man and a woman in love,” the official statement explains.

Sixty years after the film’s production, Cannes chooses to spotlight unity, intimacy, and enduring love—a powerful response to a world increasingly marked by division, conflict, and isolation.

Suspended between melancholy and hope, the two posters tell the story of a love that defies time, transforming a black-and-white image into a universal message: love remains a sanctuary, a certainty, a beacon of hope.

Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimée, both awarded at Cannes (he in 1969 for Z, she in 1980 for A Leap in the Dark), are no longer with us. Yet their presence endures in the luminous stills that capture their embrace, a timeless testament to the power of cinema.

The 78th Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 13 to May 24, 2025.
