St. Patrick: Between History and Tradition

St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17, honors Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, who spread Christianity across the island in the 5th century AD. Today, the event is marked worldwide with parades, music, and festivities.

Flavors of Ireland: Traditional Food and Drinks

St. Patrick’s Day is also a perfect occasion to enjoy some of Ireland’s culinary specialties. Among the most popular beverages are the famous Guinness, the dark beer brewed in Dublin, and cider, made from fermented apples or pears.

Typical Irish dishes for the occasion include:

  • Roast Dinner: Boiled beef with roasted potatoes, peas, and carrots, often served with Soda Bread.
  • Soda Bread: Traditional Irish bread made with whole wheat flour and baking soda as a leavening agent.
  • Crisp Sandwich: A simple but beloved snack consisting of crispy potato chips between two slices of Soda Bread.
  • Apple Tart: A classic Irish apple pie.
  • Guinness Cake: A rich cake infused with Guinness beer, giving it a unique and intense flavor.
