Until April 30, 2025, the Centre du Patrimoine – Le Sénat of the city of Nice hosts the exhibition “Les Portes du Vieux-Nice,” an intriguing exploration of the doors that define the historic heart of the city.
The doors, especially those that adorn the Vieux-Nice district, are objects rich in meaning. Beyond serving the functional purpose of protection and access, they also have decorative and symbolic value, telling stories of a past intertwined with everyday life.
The exhibition features 26 detailed drawings of the doors of Vieux Nice, created by artist and painter Géraldine Sadlier using ink. These works allow visitors to appreciate the variety and beauty of the doors that dot the historic center of the city.
Complementing the artwork, photographs by Laurent Costantini, specially commissioned by Sadlier, provide an additional visual dimension, enriching and deepening the theme of the exhibition with images that capture the essence of these doors and their architectural details.
In addition, some display cases within the exhibition feature original parts of locks and other mechanical components of the doors, kindly lent by Jean-Paul Léo, the last blacksmith to have worked in Vieux Nice.
The exhibition is open at the Centre du Patrimoine – Le Sénat, located in the heart of Vieux-Nice, at 14 Rue Jules-Gilly, at the corner of Cours Saleya.
