Mrs. Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Government Counselor-Minister of Foreign Relations and Cooperation in charge of the functions of Minister of State, attended the 2nd meeting of the Franco-Italian Border Cooperation Committee held in Nice, at Villa Masséna. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Jean-Noël BARROT, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Antonio TAJANI, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
This Committee was established by the “Treaty between the French Republic and the Italian Republic for enhanced bilateral cooperation,” known as the Quirinal Treaty, signed on November 26, 2021, between France and Italy. The treaty aims to offer a stable and formalized framework for cooperation between the two countries.
The French and Italian authorities proposed that the Principality of Monaco be associated as an observer state at the meetings of this Committee, as the Principality geographically forms part of the living basin referred to by the Quirinal Treaty. The first meeting of this Committee was held in Turin on October 31, 2023. The purpose of this second meeting was to examine the progress made on border cooperation issues since the inaugural meeting.
The participants particularly discussed topics related to transportation, the environment, education, and health. Two points discussed were of particular interest to the Principality, namely the improvement of the rail service on the Nice-Ventimiglia line and the management of water resources in the Roya Valley, which serves as one of the water supply points for the Principality.
On this occasion, Mrs. Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ emphasized that the Princely Government was particularly committed and vigilant regarding the quality of the rail service serving the Monaco station, as well as the management of water resources in the Roya Valley.
