“East of Noon” by Hala Elkoussy at the Théâtre des Variétés in Monaco

The NMNM and the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco have chosen to join forces to present works by artists who operate at the intersection of cinema and contemporary art. These films stand out for their unique forms, innovative narrative systems, and alternative production and distribution processes. For the 2024-2025 season, the Tout l’art du cinéma program of the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco and the NMNM will feature Hala Elkoussy’s film East of Noon.

With East of Noon, Hala Elkoussy immerses us in a story that blends elements of popular fairy tales, between One Thousand and One Nights and Ubu Roi, where extraordinary young figures try to survive the autocracy of a childish tyrant. Elkoussy’s second feature film stands out for its unusual and eccentric form within African and Arab cinema, evoking the aesthetics of the classics of the ’60s and ’70s.” — Firouz Pillet, May 2024.

In the first part of the event, Hala Elkoussy will present her work both as a director and a visual artist.

The screening of East of Noon (2024) will take place on Tuesday, April 1st, at 7:00 PM at the Théâtre des Variétés, 1 Boulevard Albert Ier, Monaco, with the artist in attendance.
