The Civic Archaeological Museum “Girolamo Rossi” will host the exhibition “Identity / Alterity” by the artist Claudio Marciano starting on October 12, as part of the Museum’s participation in the Contemporary Art Day. This major event, organized since 2005 by the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI), is dedicated to contemporary art and its audience, and this year marks its 20th edition. On the first or second weekend of October, AMACI-associated museums, along with other institutions in the country that join the initiative, open their doors for free, offering events, exhibitions, conferences, and workshops. This diverse program provides a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the vibrancy and richness of today’s art.

On Saturday, October 12, at 5:00 PM, the exhibition will be inaugurated at the Emilio Azaretti Room of the Civic Archaeological Museum “Girolamo Rossi” in the splendid setting of the Forte dell’Annunziata in Ventimiglia.

Speakers will include the Hon. Flavio Di Muro, Mayor of Ventimiglia, Dr. Serena Calcopietro, Councillor for Culture, MAR Director Dr. Daniela Gandolfi, art historians and curators of the exhibition Dr. Claudia Andreotta and Dr. Francesca Bogliolo, Erika Rotondaro, who will perform the monologue “Do You Recognize Me?” by Silvia Villa, and Dr. Massimiliano Santoro, anthropologist. The Artist will also be present.

Refreshments will follow.

Exhibition Theme

In the variability of human experience, identity and alterity are freely expressed in changing concepts of representation. The issues of contemporary reality generate tensions between the self and the other, fostering diversity and affirmations of individual supremacy more than dialogue and confrontation. In his world, populated by images, the Artist, through the essentiality of lines and color and the need to avoid definition, elevates the image to a level of impression that leads to a greater understanding and sharing of inner states. Reality is everything we know or believe to know, everything that exists or could exist, but also everything that, without the intervention of imagination, could not exist. With this in mind, the Artist aims to suggest attitudes of dialogue and equality through his work.

The exhibition will remain open until November 16 during the Museum’s regular hours.
