Six Monegasque relay runners will carry the Olympic Flame during its passage through Monaco on Tuesday, June 18, 2024

The Principality of Monaco is preparing to welcome the Olympic Flame, which will be carried by six Monegasque relay runners, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. At 2:15 PM, in front of the statue of Juan Manuel Fangio, located at Port Hercule, Formula 1 champion Charles Leclerc will be the first relay runner. The Flame will then be carried successively by skier Alexandra Coletti, table tennis player Xiaoxin Yang, and bobsleigh driver Rudy Rinaldi, who will hand it over to Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene in front of the statue of Malizia, at Palace Square. The Olympic Flame will follow the following route: https://urls.fr/of7xxa It will be visible to the public at the start of the Relay, along avenue du Port, at the corner of Place du Marché and at Palace Square. While waiting to welcome the relay runners at Palace Square, spectators will be able to discover a montage of archival images, conceived and created by the Audiovisual Institute and the Archives of the Palace of Monaco, evoking Monaco’s participation in the Paris Olympics 100 years ago, the bronze medal awarded to Monegasque architect Julien Médecin (1894-1986) for his urban planning designs (a discipline then included in the program), John B. Kelly’s Olympic Champion title in rowing, and also the first passage of the Olympic Flame through Monaco, 56 years ago, on the way to the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. On the occasion of this event and throughout the Olympic period, the upper gate (dated 1533) of the Rampe Major, along the route of the Olympic Flame, will be adorned, on both sides, with a large visual reminder that John B. Kelly (1889-1960), father of Princess Grace and grandfather of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, won the gold medal in rowing (double sculls) at the Paris Olympics in 1924, one hundred years ago.

Recommendations Those wishing to attend the passage of the Olympic Flame are invited to take into account traffic closures in the area between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Pedestrians will not be able to access the Rampe Major between 1:00 PM and 2:45 PM, walk inside the zones of the route delimited by barriers, or use the pedestrian crossings located along this route, especially the one at the bottom of avenue de la Porte Neuve between 2:00 PM and 2:45 PM. To ensure the security of the event, filter points will be set up along the entire route, as well as at the entrances to Palace Square.
