The Principality of Monaco is preparing to welcome Massimo Gramellini for the opening of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, an international initiative celebrating the Italian language and culture through meetings, cultural events and opportunities for discussion. The opening event will take place on Monday, 19 October 2026, at 6:30 pm at the Théâtre des Variétés in Monaco, under the title “The Power of Dialogue: Words, Stories and Experiences.”

A journalist, author and television presenter, Gramellini will lead an evening devoted to the power of words, the importance of human relationships and the ability of personal stories to build connections between people, generations and different life experiences.

The event is organised by the Embassy of Italy in the Principality of Monaco and the Monaco Committee of the Società Dante Alighieri, with the support of Claudio and Doriana Marzocco, and under the High Patronage of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover.

Massimo Gramellini presents his new book about everyday heroes

The evening will focus on “Beato il popolo che ha bisogno di eroi”, Massimo Gramellini’s latest book, published by Solferino in 2026. The volume brings together 52 stories about real people the author has encountered throughout his career: men and women who, away from the spotlight, have faced life’s challenges with courage, sensitivity and resilience.

These are not superheroes or extraordinary figures in the conventional sense. Rather, they are ordinary people whose choices, actions and everyday gestures embody universal values. Their experiences provide an opportunity to reflect on human vulnerability, individual responsibility and the meaning of relationships.

Through his distinctive narrative style, characterised by emotional insight and an attentive observation of life’s contradictions, Gramellini will guide the audience through stories that raise questions and encourage discussion. The book offers an opportunity to explore the relationship between individuals and society, demonstrating how seemingly simple episodes can reveal profound meanings.

Dialogue at the heart of the Week of the Italian Language in the World

The theme of the opening evening reflects the central focus of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World: “A Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing and Creating in Italian.”

Italian is presented not merely as a cultural heritage to be preserved and promoted, but as a living language that encourages creativity, the development of ideas and active participation. Words allow people to share experiences, exchange knowledge and build common ground across different backgrounds.

In this context, dialogue takes centre stage. Listening to other people’s stories, engaging with different perspectives and discovering new ways of interpreting reality are essential elements of both cultural and personal growth.

Gramellini’s appearance will bring together literature, journalism and reflection on the human experience, offering the audience an opportunity to rediscover the expressive potential of Italian and its ability to build connections. The event will highlight the language not only as a means of communication, but also as a meeting place for different generations and sensibilities.

The Italian Embassy and the Dante Alighieri Society promote Italian culture in Monaco

The opening event will begin with addresses by Manuela Ruosi, Ambassador of Italy to the Principality of Monaco, and Maria Betti, President of the Monaco Committee of the Società Dante Alighieri.

The partnership between the Italian Embassy and the Dante Alighieri Society highlights the role of cultural institutions in promoting the Italian language abroad and strengthening ties between Italy and Italian-speaking communities around the world.

The Week of the Italian Language in the World is an international event dedicated to celebrating Italy’s linguistic and cultural heritage through initiatives involving writers, scholars, artists and leading figures from the world of communication.

In Monaco, the decision to open the programme with Massimo Gramellini brings together reflection on language and the storytelling of human experiences. Personal stories become a way to introduce audiences to Italian culture while encouraging curiosity, participation and dialogue.
