Once again, the Principality of Monaco is celebrating APIdays<\/strong>, the National Bee Days dedicated to bees as \u201csentinels of the environment,\u201d an initiative aimed at raising awareness among citizens and families about the essential role bees play in protecting ecosystems and biodiversity.<\/p>\n

Since 2011, the Principality has been participating in the French national program \u201cThe Bee, Sentinel of the Environment\u201d<\/strong>, promoted by the French National Beekeeping Union (UNAF). As part of this partnership, several beehives have been installed on the rooftop terrace of the Stamp and Coin Museum in Fontvieille. The hives are monitored by UNAF with the support of the Gardens Section of the Urban Planning Department (DAU).<\/p>\n

APIdays 2025: June 12 and 13<\/h3>\n

For the 2025 edition of APIdays, the Gardens Section of the DAU and the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports (DENJS) are organizing two days of free activities for children, families, and nature enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

The event will take place at the UNESCO Garden<\/strong>, on the Fontvieille terraces, on June 12 and 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

The goal is to introduce the public to the world of beekeeping, promote knowledge about bees, and encourage their protection to support both environmental sustainability and agriculture.<\/p>\n

Event Program<\/h3>\n

Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of educational and interactive activities, including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Welcome and public awareness sessions;<\/li>\n
  • Beeswax candle-making workshop;<\/li>\n
  • Honey extraction and beekeeping demonstration with lead beekeeper Lucien Gu\u00e9rin;<\/li>\n
  • Presentation of nectar-producing plants and the workshop \u201cLunch With or Without Bees\u201d;<\/li>\n
  • Participatory seed bomb workshop;<\/li>\n
  • Educational discovery of bee species and beehives from around the world;<\/li>\n
  • Presentation of DENJS connected beehives;<\/li>\n
  • Bee-themed board game available on Saturday only;<\/li>\n
  • Educational exhibition featuring information panels about bees and pollination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Why Bees Are Essential to the Environment<\/h3>\n

    Bees play a crucial role in plant pollination and are among the most important indicators of environmental health. Their presence contributes significantly to biodiversity and the production of many food crops.<\/p>\n

    Through initiatives such as APIdays, the Principality of Monaco reaffirms its commitment to protecting pollinators and promoting sustainable practices, while engaging citizens and younger generations in environmental education.<\/p>\n
