The charm of traditional sailing returns to the French Riviera with the arrival of the Belem tall ship in Cannes<\/strong>, one of the most iconic and longest-living three-masted ships in European maritime history.<\/p>\n

From May 1 to 3, 2026<\/strong>, the historic French sailing ship will be docked at Port Canto<\/strong>, opposite the capitainerie, and will exceptionally open its decks to the public, offering visitors the rare chance to step aboard a living piece of maritime history.<\/p>\n

A rare and captivating event that turns Cannes into an open-air floating museum.<\/p>\n

Visiting the Belem in Cannes: opening hours and tickets<\/h2>\n

During the three-day opening period, the Belem will be accessible as follows:<\/p>\n

  • 10:00 AM \u2013 6:00 PM<\/li>\n
  • Last entry at 5:30 PM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Tickets can be purchased:<\/p>\n

    • online in advance<\/li>\n
    • directly on the quay<\/li>\n
    • by card or cash payment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Part of the proceeds will contribute to the preservation and maintenance of this extraordinary maritime heritage.<\/p>\n

      Accessibility and boarding conditions<\/h2>\n

      Visiting the Belem requires good physical mobility.<\/p>\n

      Due to the ship\u2019s structure:<\/p>\n

      • wheelchairs are not allowed on board<\/li>\n
      • the vessel is not accessible for wheelchair users<\/li>\n
      • visitors with mild mobility issues may board with crew assistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        During low tide, gangway slopes can reach up to 15%, so an accompanying person is recommended.<\/p>\n

        The Belem: history of a legendary French sailing ship<\/h2>\n

        Launched in 1896 at the Dubigeon shipyards in Chantenay-sur-Loire<\/strong>, the Belem was originally built as a cargo ship transporting cocoa to France.<\/p>\n

        Measuring 58 meters in length<\/strong>, it has crossed oceans, changed names and roles, and undergone several transformations over more than a century.<\/p>\n

        From merchant ship to yacht and training vessel<\/h2>\n

        In 1914, the Belem was converted into a luxury yacht by the Duke of Westminster.<\/p>\n

        In 1921, it was acquired by Sir Arthur Ernest Guinness, who renamed it Fant\u00f4me II<\/strong> and used it for a world voyage between 1923 and 1924.<\/p>\n

        Its Italian connection began in 1951, when it was purchased by Senator Vittorio Cini<\/strong> and transformed into a training ship in Venice under the name Giorgio Cini<\/strong>, training young sailors for over fifteen years.<\/p>\n

        Return to France and modern legacy<\/h2>\n

        After a period of uncertainty and risk of abandonment, the ship returned to France in 1979 and regained its original name: Belem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
