H.S.H. Prince Albert II<\/strong>, President of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Mon\u00e9gasque d\u2019Athl\u00e9tisme<\/strong>, and Mutaz Barshim<\/strong>, three-time world champion and Olympic high jump champion<\/strong>, have officially announced the creation of a new major athletics event in the Principality<\/strong>: the Monaco Athletics Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This announcement marks a key milestone for Monegasque athletics<\/strong>, introducing an international event fully dedicated to sporting excellence<\/strong> and to the promotion of high jump<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

From the What Gravity Challenge to a global series<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since 2024<\/strong>, Mutaz Barshim has been developing an innovative event dedicated to his discipline, bringing together the world\u2019s best high jumpers<\/strong> in a competition held in Doha. Named the What Gravity Challenge<\/strong>, inspired by his spectacular jumping technique<\/strong> that seems to defy gravity, the event was created with a clear ambition: to give greater visibility to high jump<\/strong> while bringing athletes closer to the public<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following the success of its first edition<\/strong>, the Qatari champion decided to expand the concept from 2025<\/strong> into a global league<\/strong>, the What Gravity Tour<\/strong>. This international series features iconic and historic sporting destinations<\/strong>, allowing athletes to accumulate points throughout the season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Monaco, a natural European stage<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It was within the framework of this European leg that discussions with the Monegasque Athletics Federation led to the creation of a Monaco stage from 2026<\/strong>. Drawing on its proven expertise in organising urban competitions<\/strong>, notably through the relocation of events from the Meeting Herculis EBS<\/strong> to Port Hercule in 2018 and 2019, the Federation aims to further develop city-based athletics events<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The goal is to offer an exceptional setting for both athletes and spectators<\/strong>, right in the heart of the city.<\/p>\n

\n

Save the date: 5 August 2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Born from a shared vision<\/strong>, the Monaco Athletics Festival will enhance Monaco\u2019s sporting calendar from 2026 onwards<\/strong>. With the support of the Princely Government and the Monaco City Hall<\/strong>, the first edition<\/strong> will take place on 5 August 2026 at 6:00 p.m.<\/strong>, on the Quai Albert Ier<\/strong>, which will be transformed into an open-air sporting arena<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
