The Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Jumex Museum in Mexico City<\/strong>, presents three monumental bronze sculptures<\/strong> by French-Lebanese artist Simone Fattal<\/strong>, winner of the 49th International Prize for Contemporary Art 2025<\/strong>. The works Adam and Eve<\/em> (2021)<\/strong> and Door<\/em> (2024)<\/strong> will be displayed on the Jumex Museum esplanade from February 3 to March 1, 2026<\/strong>, offering a powerful contemporary reflection on memory, the body, and myth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The International Prize for Contemporary Art (IPCA)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Established in 1965<\/strong> and organized by the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation since 1983<\/strong>, the IPCA<\/strong> is one of the most prestigious awards on the international art scene. This edition is artistically directed by Cristiano Raimondi<\/strong>.
The prize, endowed with \u20ac75,000<\/strong>, has been awarded every three years since 2010<\/strong> by an Artistic Council<\/strong> chaired by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover<\/strong>. Each member of the Council appoints three international art experts<\/strong>, tasked with presenting a work created within the past two years<\/strong> and considered the most accomplished and representative of an artist\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n

On October 14, 2025<\/strong>, during the Awards Ceremony held at the Op\u00e9ra Garnier in Monte-Carlo<\/strong>, the Foundation awarded the 49th International Prize for Contemporary Art<\/strong> to Simone Fattal<\/strong> for her work Sempre il mare, uomo libero, amerai !<\/em> (2023)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Simone Fattal: career and artistic vision<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Born in 1942 in Damascus<\/strong>, Simone Fattal<\/strong> is today regarded as one of the leading voices of international contemporary creation<\/strong>. Her artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, collage, writing, and publishing<\/strong>, and is deeply influenced by history and the contemporary world<\/strong>, as well as by classical sculpture, mythology, and archaic forms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Forced to flee the Lebanese civil war<\/strong>, Fattal settled in California in the 1980s<\/strong>, where she founded the independent publishing house Post-Apollo Press<\/strong>, dedicated to poetry and contemporary literature, notably the works of Etel Adnan<\/strong>. After enrolling at the San Francisco Art Institute<\/strong>, she began working with ceramics<\/strong>, a medium that has remained central to her artistic practice ever since.<\/p>\n

As Etel Adnan<\/strong> once wrote, when Simone Fattal first confronted clay, it was an act of creation<\/strong>: transforming raw matter into movement and vital impulse<\/strong>, recreating the primal gesture that distinguishes humanity from the animal world.<\/p>\n

Simone Fattal\u2019s nomination for the IPCA<\/strong> was proposed by Christine Tohme<\/strong>, Lebanese curator and director of Ashkal Alwan<\/strong>, who emphasized the relevance of Fattal\u2019s work in understanding the social, political, and ecological realities of our time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The IPCA in Mexico City<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since 2013<\/strong>, the IPCA laureate has been presented outside the Principality of Monaco<\/strong> as part of a major international event<\/strong>. For the 2025 edition<\/strong>, the Prince Pierre Foundation selected the Jumex Museum in Mexico City<\/strong>, presenting the exhibition within the framework of the city\u2019s Art Week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation<\/strong> was founded on February 17, 1966<\/strong>, by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III<\/strong>, in tribute to his father, Prince Pierre<\/strong>, a great patron of literature and the arts<\/strong>.
Today, under the presidency of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover<\/strong>, the Foundation\u2019s mission is to support and promote contemporary creation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Each year, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince<\/strong> awards the Foundation\u2019s main prizes on the recommendation of its three councils<\/strong>: the literary, musical, and artistic councils. The Literary Prize<\/strong> and the Discovery Grant<\/strong> are awarded annually, while the Music Composition Prize<\/strong>, the International Prize for Contemporary Art<\/strong>, and the Research Grant<\/strong> are awarded every three years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
