The countries that share this spectacular mountain range<\/strong> \u2013 Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland<\/strong> \u2013 met in Monaco on November 5 and 6<\/strong> for the 39th meeting of the \u201cCompliance Committee\u201d of the Alpine Convention<\/strong>.
The objective of this meeting was to assess compliance with the commitments<\/strong> made under the Convention<\/strong> and its protocols<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

The challenges facing the Alps<\/strong> are often transboundary in nature<\/strong>, and it is through cooperation<\/strong> that they can best be addressed.
A Party to the Convention since 1994<\/strong>, the Principality of Monaco<\/strong> is actively involved, alongside the seven other countries<\/strong> and the European Union<\/strong>, in efforts to promote sustainable development in the Alpine area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This territory, characterized by a very specific geography<\/strong> and particular ecological fragility<\/strong>, requires rigorous coordination between supranational, national, and regional policies<\/strong> to ensure a balance between economic development and environmental preservation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

The Committee\u2019s discussions focused mainly on the protection of soils in Alpine wetlands and peatlands<\/strong>, ecosystems that are particularly threatened<\/strong> throughout this mountain region, even though they play an essential role in terms of biodiversity<\/strong> and as carbon sinks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Another major topic concerned the assessment of the compliance of deregulation measures<\/strong> adopted by the European Union<\/strong> under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III)<\/strong>.
In its report, the Committee concluded that these measures are compatible with the provisions of the Alpine Convention<\/strong>, while noting that they directly concern only EU Member States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Finally, participants selected a new area of work focused on fragile Alpine zones<\/strong>.
This meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm Monaco\u2019s and the Contracting Parties\u2019 constant commitment<\/strong> to the Alpine Convention<\/strong>, promoting coordinated environmental governance<\/strong> and sustainable management of Alpine territories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
