Over 120 classic and vintage sailing and motor boats expected at the 17th Monaco Classic Week<\/strong>
The 2025 edition will take place from 10 to 13 September 2025<\/strong> in Monte Carlo, on the occasion of the 17th edition of the Monaco Classic Week \u2013 La Belle Classe<\/strong> (www.monacoclassicweek.com<\/a>), the exclusive, invitation-only event launched in 1994<\/strong> and organised every two years by the Yacht Club de Monaco<\/strong>, chaired by H.S.H. Prince Albert II<\/strong>. This is the most important and prestigious gathering of its kind in the world, bringing together in a single port the largest and most exceptional fleet<\/strong> of historically significant vessels in sailing and motorboating history.<\/p>\n

Boats from around the world will attend, launched as early as the late 19th century and designed by legendary naval architects including England\u2019s Charles E. Nicholson<\/strong>, Scotland\u2019s William Fife<\/strong>, George L. Watson<\/strong> and Alfred Mylne<\/strong>, Americans Sparkman & Stephens<\/strong>, Nathana\u00ebl G. Herreshoff<\/strong> and John G. Alden<\/strong>, Frenchmen Eug\u00e8ne Cornu<\/strong> and Fran\u00e7ois Camatte<\/strong>, Norway\u2019s Johan Anker<\/strong>, and Italians Carlo Sciarrelli<\/strong> and Vittorio Baglietto<\/strong>.
The event will welcome 60 vintage sailboats<\/strong>, as many runabouts and motorboats<\/strong> (including a fleet of Rivas<\/strong>), around 15 motor yachts<\/strong> up to 80 metres<\/strong> in length, and a dozen Dinghy 12\u2019<\/strong>, the former Olympic class dinghy designed in 1913 by George Cockshott<\/strong>.
Access to the quays and the Exhibitors\u2019 Village<\/strong> (featuring painters, photographers, craftsmen, and the YCM Official Boutique) will be free and open to the public from Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 September<\/strong>, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Historic highlights and unique vessels<\/strong>
It took 17 years<\/strong> to restore Partridge<\/strong>, one of the most elegant gaff-rigged Victorian cutters still sailing. Built in 1885<\/strong> by Camper & Nicholsons<\/strong> in Gosport, England, and designed by J. Beavor Webb<\/strong>, it was once used as a houseboat, rescued from the mud of the River Blackwater in 1979, and restored in a garden on the Isle of Wight. It returned to sailing in 1998 and will celebrate its 140th anniversary<\/strong> in Monte Carlo.<\/p>\n

Nearly 60 sailboats<\/strong> will be present, including legendary schooners like the 65-metre Creole<\/strong> (1927), the majestic Elena of London<\/strong> (2009), Puritan<\/strong> (1931), and Zaca<\/strong> (1929), which became Errol Flynn\u2019s floating home<\/strong> in 1946 and was later used by Orson Welles<\/strong> in The Lady from Shanghai<\/em> starring Rita Hayworth<\/strong>.
Also attending: Invader<\/strong> (1905), celebrating 120 years<\/strong>, which hosted movie stars like Douglas Fairbanks<\/strong> and Charlie Chaplin<\/strong>, who met his future wife Paulette Goddard<\/strong> on board.<\/p>\n

The event will also mark 30 years of Tuiga<\/strong> in the Yacht Club de Monaco fleet. Launched in 1909<\/strong> by the Scottish shipyard Fife<\/strong>, this nearly 28-metre<\/strong> yacht is one of only four 15-Metre International Rule boats<\/strong> still sailing today. Since 2023, another yacht joined the fleet: Argynne III<\/strong>, a 1955 canoe-stern Bermudan sloop designed by Eug\u00e8ne Cornu<\/strong> and built by Bonnin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Also present: Manitou<\/strong> (1937), dubbed the “Floating White House”<\/strong> for its use by President John F. Kennedy<\/strong>, and several century-old classics including Black Swan<\/strong> (1899), Kismet<\/strong> (1898), Mariette<\/strong> (1915), Lulu<\/strong> (1897), Barbara<\/strong> (1923), Viola<\/strong> (1908), Chips<\/strong> (1913), Greylag<\/strong> (1932), and Brynhilde<\/strong> (1958).<\/p>\n

Around 15 motor yachts<\/strong> are registered, built between 1906 and 1974<\/strong>, led by the 79-metre steamship Delphine<\/strong> (1921), followed by the 45-metre Kalizma<\/strong> (1906, G.L. Watson), gifted by Richard Burton<\/strong> to Elizabeth Taylor<\/strong> after her Oscar win for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?<\/em>. Now available for charter, Kalizma is known as the “Orient Express of the seas.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

A fleet of over 50 motorboats<\/strong> will attend, including runabouts, vaporetto-style launches, and vintage powerboats \u2013 among them the iconic Rivas<\/strong>, the world-famous mahogany boats built in 4,098 units<\/strong> by Carlo Riva<\/strong>, including models like Aquarama<\/strong>, Tritone<\/strong>, Ariston<\/strong>, and Olympic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Vessels will be judged by a panel chaired by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston<\/strong>, the first man to complete a solo non-stop circumnavigation (1968\u20131969), with Piero Maria Gibellini<\/strong>, Riva\u2019s leading historian and biographer, as juror. The prestigious La Belle Classe Restoration Prize<\/strong> will be awarded, while a jury chaired by Allegra Gucci<\/strong> will assess etiquette, style and “Art de Vivre la Mer”<\/strong> for the Elegance Contest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Chefs Competition<\/strong> will also return, challenging crews to create gourmet dishes onboard using mystery ingredients supplied in a surprise box.<\/p>\n
