On the occasion of a conference held from May 27 to 30, 2024, in Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Mrs. Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the UN, reaffirmed the Principality’s support for the sustainable development of small island developing states, which are particularly vulnerable to economic shocks and the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n

During this conference, a ten-year action program was adopted to support the development of these small islands, particularly in combating the effects of climate change, promoting sustainable tourism, strengthening capacities, fostering innovation, transitioning to renewable energy, protecting oceans, and improving access to international finance.<\/p>\n

The Principality of Monaco highlighted the potential of the blue economy and praised the key role of small island developing states in protecting the ocean and marine biodiversity.
\nFinally, H.E. Mrs. Picco participated in the event organized by the High Seas Alliance on the new treaty for the conservation of marine biodiversity in the high seas, which Monaco recently ratified. The President of Palau, the first state to ratify this treaty, along with the Ministers of the Maldives, Fiji, Belize, Singapore, Mauritius, and the Ambassador of Micronesia, also participated.
